Force India has announced who will test their car next week. The car will have a red-white design. Just like Toyota, and Super Aguri, and to a lesser extent McLaren and Ferrari.
I dont think Gascoyne's strength lies in the design of the cars, it must be his ability to manage his workers effectively, as a good technical director should. Renault were a mess before his arrival and he set in place systems that eventually culminated in the 2005-6 championships. Same at Toyota although with no real design talent there anyway, they've fallen. When he was there though they caught a few podiums, although as Dave rightly points out, with that sort of money behind them they should've gotten more.
Its sort of difficult to gauge his effectiveness, but he was on $8 million at Toyota. You'd think for that money, they'd want a designer who was absolutely the nuts. A Rory Byrne, or maybe even an Adrian Newey. Instead they got Gascoyne, who I dont think can lay claim to anything worthwhile. I don't think he's a bad director, and he's someone who could probably do a lot with a team such as Spyker. Force India, sorry.
