I doubt Schumacher would go anywhere other than Ferrari, so that is completely moot. The only former champion that McLaren can get is Mika, but with his retirement from DTM, it seems racing for him is over. IMO, McLaren will end up with Sutil in the team. I'm not sure what is going to happen to Alonso and that's key to all this, but I can see RedBull as a very possible alternative...according to some reports, Alonso has already passed up an offer from Toyota, and as much as some of you may like to fantasize, he is not going to Williams. They simply won't spill the dough for it. RedBull though, they already use Renault engines, so it could be a possible stepping stone for him going back to Renault later.

Now, as far as him going to Ferrari, I find that complicated. There will be a spot there only after 2009, and that's if Kimi retires, which btw, Alonso also said that he planned to retire by the same time as Kimi. At the start of the year, he said his contract with McLaren was probably the last contract he was going to make...of course everything went downhill this year with the team, so now he needs another team, and that's why he's probably looking closely at the options, cause he needs a team that can give a fighting chance at the title for the next two years. Another complicating factor at Ferrari, is he doesn't really like the team. I remember at the end of 2006 he saying to the Renault guys: "I don't mind which color you guys paint the car for next year, as long as it's not red". So I think it's an unlikely partnership.

He's recently said that he's thinking about retiring within te next few years. Can't remember the link...

Maybe he will race a bit more than that. I certainly hope so. But he said that Ferrari would be his last F1 team. Hopefully he will extend his contract later on, but now that he is champion I find it hard. Alonso also said the same, that he McLaren would be his last team, only that went down the drain.

Kimi's been quoted as saying somewhere that he won't stick around in F1. As flat tyre says, I can't find the link... but that's two of us who remember it so it has, at least, been said...

There were quite a few stories on that in F1-live towards the beginning of the year I think. Maybe something in formula1.com also.

It was also in every possible Finnish media. But if Im not wrong actually he only answered to guestion that 'will he race for as long time as Schumacher did'. He said NO for that and was talking about few more years.

They aren't on the top of the list, but that doesn't mean they aren't on the list at all. Ralf probably hasn't been on the list anyway. Only Rosberg isn't allowed to leave Williams and just forget about Hakkinen. He's not coming back, get over it.

Kimi said in Autosport that he will not be in F1 that long he does not want to race as an old man. He will probably leave in a few years, alonso has also said the same thing.

As for MS going to mclaren it would do him more harm than good. It will take him time to get used to the team and if Lewis beat him what would people say.

Kimi will retire at the end of this contract.

he will use his boodles of cash to run a rally team for himself and turn up to whatever WRC events he feels like doing.

That's what i reckon, Fernando will be at RBR with Adrian Newey, Renault engines and hopefully Ross Brawn in the mix.

Why would Michael and Mika come back to race Hamilton and risk ruining their reputation as 2 of the greatest ever drivers? Because you know if either was beaten by Hamilton (because they are rusty or whatever) then the press will have a field day. And its not like they need the money either...
