Hehe, I really doubt that.

"Thank you."

Odds are that the FOM TV crew might become somewhat less interested in showing certain cars.

no other series can really be considered at a similar level to F1 apart from the premier US-based open-wheel series, so although JPM was a rookie to F1, he was used to racing at well over 200mph week in, week out, he was used to the power of an F1 car before he even stepped into one.

there's a huge difference between coming straight from a junior series such as Formula Renault with only 23 races on your record (as Kimi did), and having a few years experience in CART, plus winning the championship itself, after winning F3000 which is only 1 level below F1 (as JPM did).

of course JPM was not the "great find" of 2001, he was well-known and on most people's radar. he was already testing Williams F1 cars in 1997 and the plan from when he won the F3000 title was to always be placed in CART and join Williams F1 when the time was right. it's not as if no-one in F1 had heard of him before Frank Williams brought him to F1 in 2001.

which can be said for Kimi. probably no-one in F1 knew who he was till Peter Sauber introduced him, due to the fact that he skipped the natural feeder series to F1 (F3000) and jumped from a junior category straight into F1.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

So what's your point? That Kimi is by far better than Montoya? You win!

But we're talking here about the generation that came to F1 in 2001 and already have 3 championships, and some other potential with JPM.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Muks. Alonso is a true great of the sport currently but he was "in" from the off as he was sent to Minardi by Briatore to get races under his belt.

Kimi on the otherhand jumped a series/formula on his way into F1 and stunned everyone. I remember when he first came in and wondered who the hell he was. I knew the names of all the F1 drivers and a few non-F1 drivers who might make it into F1. I didn't know about Kimi.

He is my favourite driver now. I'm not saying that to jump on the bandwagon now he is the F1 champion. He's been a favourite of mine for some time now. Probably quite soon after he was so fast in F1.

Since Damon Hill retired I didn't really have a driver to support then along came Kimi.

I know it might sound stupid.

But i think that if Montoya was in the Mclaren this year in place of Alonso he might have won the championship. He was a extremely quick driver but most people overlooked this with the few crashes he had.

You're going to love this. Went to the student pub with two of my flatmates last night. We got talking about favourite bands and songs etc. One of them asks who recorded Stairway To Heaven!! :-o He asks if it was Led Zeppelin.

I was just so shocked and amazed. What makes it worse is that he's on a Music degree course. OK classic music degree but still!

Anyone who is unaware of who recorded Stairway should be shot at dawn.

Montoya could never do well with the current F1 rules packages. His driving styled suited the rough and tumble style of the 90s CART stuff (something which has been removed with the DP01). Whilst the NASCAR stuff is totally different, it suits his style of driving more than the current F1 stuff.

Take F1 back to the early-mid 90s and he'd have been much more of a force to reckon with. We've all seen this video before, but no harm in again.

DP01 is the poor excuse for a chassis built by Panoz which CCWS is currently using as a replacement for the ageing Lola B02/00.
