For the first time in over 30 years the legendary circuit of Montjuic Park in Barcelona will hear the roar of Formula One engines this weekend when Martini, one of the circuit's first supporters back in 1933, will pay tribute to Montjuic's 75th anniversary through a retro motorsport festival.

The circuit was home to the Spanish Grand Prix up until 1975 and remains largely unchanged. For the ‘Martini Legends’ event, the streets will be closed and the circuit restored to its former glory, with pit lane, start-finish line and grandstands, in a bid to recreate the heritage and atmosphere of when legendary drivers such as Sir Jackie Stewart and Emmerson Fittipaldi were racing.

On Saturday, October 13 a large collection of classic and collector's cars will be displayed on the Reina Maria Cristina Avenue, with background information on the drivers and races of the day. Then on the Sunday more than 50 cars that competed at the circuit in the past will take to the track and complete a unique parade through Montjuic Park.

Double world champion and Brazilian legend Fittipaldi will drive the Lotus that took him to title glory in 1972 and victory at Montjuic in '73, while Ferrari's Spanish test driver Marc Gene will bring celebrations up-to-date when he demonstrates a 2006 Ferrari F248. There will be 12 Formula One cars in total - including Jackie Stewart's Tyrrell 001 - plus sports prototypes and GT cars that competed at the famous urban circuit.

For those that don't know about the track:

Video of Sir Jackie Stewart describing a lap of the track as played in GPL. Sadly not in English but you can hear most of it if you listen carefully.

The raw footage of both cameras filming in English at:

[montjuich.speedgeezers.net]

Includes Nico Rosberg watching the lap. Is quite hard to get the raw footage to play the instructions on the right work though, took me an hour to get going =(.

Rolf Stommelen died there because of that armco barrier.

and just for the record: it's forgot or neglected you cannot have both, doesn't make sense.

no offence there mate

I find the prospect of brnco correcting someone's spelling rather LOLful..

May I point out your thread "Williams confirmes Nakajima"

Confirmes??

WHUT?

Like the pot calling the kettle black, mate?

edit : how about another example?

"It is beleived that not signing Satoru costed Williams to loose Honda engines."

It's believed, and lose. And the sentence doesn't make sense. Mate.

Again you're wrong. Rolf was injured, but recovered. 4 or 5 spectators did die though after his car vaulted those barriers. :(

Rolf was apparently killed at Riverside in 1983 driving a sportscar, ironically also because of a rear wing failure, something synonymous with Montjuic, and which caused his accident there.

Isn't this the track where the armco was that bad, Ken Tyrrell went out with a spanner and tried fixing it himself?
