Hmmmz, sad, but it leaves still a lot of opportunities... The leader might fail (Japan 2006, MS), nr 3 might overtake nr 2, which have both already made their pitstops, and the number 1 hasn't yet, but will surely lose the lead when he does, or ofcourse, the most common reason nowadays the passing happens during pitstops themselves, or the leader leads from pole tp finish.

But this season we did háve seen the leader been passed on track, because in Sepang Massa was on pole, but he didn't win the race, so he must have been passed at a certain moment ;)

They mean other than the start and it does show how tedious watching F1 at the sharp end of the grid has become.

The reason why I said the ferrari drivers would help lewis more is simple.

If kimi and massa win races they will take points off each other, alonso needs to win races with lewis lower than 3rd.

After 8 races lewis has 14 point lead over alonso.

Lewis is near enough in a position that he does not need to win again if he finishes every race. With alonso, massa and kimi all fighting ro close the gap its a great position for lewis to be in.

In spain 3 drivers were tied on points 4 races later lewis has a 14 point lead.

Do you see my point :)

The only thing to really help Alonso close the gap is a dnf or a bad result for Lewis, i'm sure he'll get one or the other at some point this season.

And I think for ferrari they have lost to much ground in the drivers championship.

The drivers finished the wrong way round really in the french gp.

But then again, ferrari couldn't do anything, if they had given teamorders, to let Massa finish in front of KR, everyone would fall over them and flame them for spoiling competition.

They did the only thing they could and should, finish with both cars before the mcLarens ánd they did it in 1st and 2np position, so that's the max they could have done.

Yep true maybe in other years they would have been swapped round, its good they did not.

All they can hope for is a dnf for lewis, if either ferrari driver has a dnf and lewis wins that would be just about game over for that driver, at the moment its a tall order.

I already think Ferrari is in a difficult position this year. They'll have to improve a lot to think about winning the championship.

Really? I'm seriously thinking about putting money on both Kimi and Massa to win the title... they're not that far behind, and I still believe Hamilton's going to succumb to his own confidence yet. The odds are stacked against him. You don't go through seasons, especially debut seasons, with this much at stake, and not make a cock-up. I hope he does (win it), as apart from ITV's lewis lovin', I really want him to come in and win the thing. It'll be a good shot in the arm for F1. I've just watched F1 enough to know that in all likelihood, his season won't end anyway close to the lead he has now.

It's the long long uphill slug now, in my opinion...

Ferrari could have easily done it had they wanted to. "Fuel rig"/"Sticky wheel nut" problem but they didn't and I'm glad they didn't.

Well, yeah, maybe Hamilton will lose it and start doing a few average performances and then Ferrari can pick up the pieces and start beating him constantly with Kimi and Massa generally ahead of him. But if that happens, I think Alonso will just take the opportunity and win the championship. True, Alonso had a couple of bad races lately and he may be a bit frustrated right now and that is reflecting on his driving. But I really do think that the moment Hamilton shows a sign of faltering, Alonso will regain confidence and will dominate at the McLaren camp. I'm no Alonso fan, but after 05/06, I've learned to not discard him ever...dude is just way too damn lucky.

I too am glad they didn't do anything like that.

Alonso has had the bad luck this year and some bad races as well tbh.

People keep going on about how good lewis is at starts, he is not he has not made one good start off the line he is just brave into the 1st turn.

Brave or stupid? :) It paid off for him until now, but I don`t think it will all the time.

Yes, he's had all the lucky this year hasn't he? ;) Seriously he was only lucky in 2005 and it seems those who support Kimi or Michael seem to believe that he stole the championships from them.
In reality i doubt that Fernando can come back from where he is now but i do believe, and i hope that Ferrari and Kimi in particular, are now going to come back at Lewis and hopefully give him a run for the championship. Personally i hope Kimi wins it this year and Lewis the next.

I'm not saying Alonso is being lucky right now. All good things come to and end at some point, even if for a short time. And who said he wasn't lucky last year? When all things seemed lost, Schumacher had a string of reliability issues and ended up 13 points behind Alonso. He is lucky, believe me.

yes but Alonso had an engine failure at Monza, so that cancels itself out with MS' engine failure at Suzuka. it's not even worth talking about MS' engine failure cos Alonso had one too.

Alonso was only lucky that MS had problems at Brazil, but he had to put up with the politics with the mass dampers so again, it cancels itself out.

String? One engine failiure is hardly a string! How about Fernando's engine failiure at Monza or his wheel falling off in Hungary? That's two mechanical problems for Fernando to Schumachers one.

"yes but Alonso had an engine failure at Monza, so that cancels itself out with MS' engine failure at Suzuka. it's not even worth talking about MS' engine failure cos Alonso had one too."

Alonso lost 6 points at Monza and Schumacher lost 10 points at Suzuka with Alonso also gaining 2.

Schumacher gained 6 points

Alonso gained 12.

Alonso fully deserved to win the championship in 2006, but those 2 failures in no way cancel each other out.

The races that really cost MS the shot at the title was probably Monaco and Hungry.
