Something to do with the rear wheels not being able to turn and so the airflow over / round them is constant, I believe... wouldn't work tge same on the fronts, which constantly turn.

Just to comment on the earlier posts, they're nothing to do with cooling - they harm the cooling, which is why they've never been used on the front wheels, which obviously carry most of the braking force.

They're purely aerodynamic devices - nothing more.

Same reason why they've been popular in other forms of motorsport (and even non-motorsport) for years now - in all cases the persistent brake temperature isn't as high and poses much less of a problem.

Ferrari have obviously found away around the problem, or are testing solutions.

The Ferrari one is actually the same as the Peugot one, just painted different. Sure they look nice, but they would be a bitch to follow, definately no overtaking with them lol.
