Taken from Autosport - Spyker front 'brake detail'. Is this for whilst the car is on-track...?!?!!?

I may be totally wrong - I just thought it looked interesting - Thought you guys may be able to shed some light...?

I can't see the image. I need to register. Can you upload it on Imageshack or something?

And not be a pain, but would this not be better in the active Mclare thread.

Purley because we have been talking about the test in there too ?

Whoops sorry - Thought it might be classed as Off-Topic given that thread's title. Just trying not to rock any boats...! :)

I can't find any other pics of it on any other sites either - If anyone does then feel free to post a pic - It looks like Spyker's take on the Ferrari pioneered brake cooling system for it's rears - Although the Spyker has it on the fronts...

the middle shiny grille is only there when it's stationary, from a fan or something, I think. it's not there while moving:

is'nt that just a brake cooler put in place when the car is stationary between the runs?

I agree, I just think it's a brake cooler when the car doesn't drive

Spyker doesn't have any interesting developments, besides the fact they are going to open a formula 1 bar, in cooperation with Heineken.

FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, just contract Heineken as a sponsor damnit, in stead of wasting time and money for useless promotion thingies :S

Indeed, looks like a static brake cooler. I'm not an aerodynamicist, but even i would guess that that's only going to create havoc when rotating at speed ;)

And that's pre-season Sniper - So I guess it is just used when the car is in the pits.....

Oh well - Case closed I suppose.

The thought was nice though.....

Why is it that they're only used on the rears anyway..? Aerodynamics...?

what do you mean 'only on the rears' ?

I think he means the front.. Cos they are only in the front wheels..

I didn't mean on the Spyker - I meant the other teams, most obviously Ferrari - and why they only run their 'brake cooling' systems on the rear wheels, and not the fronts too...??

I think because, the front gets enough fresh air from the air flow...

But I thought the general consensus was that although they do aid cooling, they are predominantly used as they increase the cars aero efficiency - Surely something that could be of use on the front wheels also....?
