Bahrain Grand Prix 15th April *Spoilers* "ON-TOPIC"

Posted by Monza972
Overall it was a good race, with more action pumped up in the middle field, great overtakes(hedfeld on alonso, rosberg on heikki, trulli on fisico, coulthard and so on), drama again for honda team(s), and nice wc table at the end.
Barcelona here we come!!!

I also thought that watching Melbourne 1996 about...Jacques Villeneuve. Well, he's doing fine but in F1 there have been a lot of "new coming" stars that at the end nothing. We don't know exactly what happened to Alonso but from Malaysia to here he lost about 34 second versus Hamilton (22 seconds ahead in Malaysia + 12 of disadvantage here) which is, at least, not normal...

I already have some age and experience watching F1 races and I liked the way the great stars appeared in the past (like Senna in Monaco... and not so past, Kimi in Sauber, Alonso in Minardi), I mean, a great driver with a crap car fighting with much better cars.

We'll see what's up after 7 or 8 races, if Hamilton have to deal with a difficult situation, then is when a great driver is put under test I think.

yes we should just calm down a little bit. it's gone about 100000% better than he or his team or we could have expected for him so far, but we should just keep a bit grounded and see what happens when he qualifies 8th or 10th, or has some car problems to cope with. it's a fairytale so far, but it will end one day, maybe at the next race, maybe at the race after that, but things will go wrong for him somewhere and that's where he'll need to keep calm and focussed.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael
Yeah, both Lewis and Massa are being hyped a lot lately. I think Lewis performance has been masked so far by a very brilliant strategy from McLaren in all races so far. If his strategy wasn't so good in this race, I think Kimi would've gotten 2nd place. And there's also the thing that he has been racing always at the front so far. When you are racing further back, it's a lot harder, cause your car is faster, and it's easier to make mistakes on that situation. I think we'll see where he really stand when he needs to start from the back of the grid or something like that. I know he did it before in Gp2, but there all the cars are more or less equal.

Massa showed again that he can win a race when he starts 1st, can keep at the front, and nobody is near to challenge him. All his race wins were like that so far. Can he do drives like Schumacher did at China last year?? Or Kimi at Japan 05'??

Exactly, that's what i meant. He should also be cautious and avoid such declarations: "I have the same car and I seem to be as competitive as him (Alonso)", well, one race does not make a season (and seems to forget we was more than 20 seconds behind him and regularly quite much slower...and just one week ago so...).

either way i can not remember when 3 drivers were level on points after 3 races normally someone has a 10 point gap. Lets just hope all the top cars remain reliable and we will be in for a championship that goes to the wire.

Everyone is waiting for lewis to make a mistake, say he does not he might be that good that he does not. Look at kimi for example did did not make a mistake once in his 1st year, well that i can remember anyway.

Nick is in a good position as well, if ferrari and mclaren drivers start having accidents he is in a great position.

Everyone still goes on about newey but as i said some time ago the last car he designed that won a championship was 1999 I think there are people out there just as good as him now and these people make the cars finish the race.

DC had a great race though coming through the field would have loved him to get some points.

In fairness I think Newey specialises in the aerodynamics, and in that area I would say he still seems to be one of the best.
Yes he's an aero man mainly, still good to see the RBRs going well for once but reliability is an issue, mind you Renault aren't doing that well in that department either.
Wouldn't it be funny if Nick stole the world championship from under Ferrari's and Mclaren's nose this year!
I've read that Newey is old-school when it comes to software use, so with the onset of better computer simulation equipment and more testing it became easier for the less intuitive (perhaps not the right term) designers to compete.

yeah, he still does all of his designing on a drawing-board. Then the hoards of RBR draughtsmen convert it all to cad.

Blimey! 10 extra pages in 2 days? You lot are going nuts over this race! Well done! :)

Hamilton was exceptional today, but I think he ran outta laps at the end to get the win. Plainly, he just wasn't fast enough in the middle stint when he needed to be. Alonso was right off-form, much like Massa was last weekend. Massa deserved a good result I think, and a win helps his championship bid. Raikkonen's still trying his darndest to get a second win, but can't get the car up to speed as quickly as he did in Melbourne, which bodes well for the others.

Oh, and has anybody else noticed Heidfeld lately? Behind Hamilton, he's the most consistent driver in the field. 3 4th places in a row! Consistency like that deserves a good mention. Kubica blatantly couldn't handle his pace.

Did anybody figure out what cause both Speed and Button to stall? I know they didn't hit each other, but if it was just a Spyker that did that, that's quite expensive for results, cause Torro Rosso could have had a good one today.

DC, well well well! We knew you had it in you somehow. Now why the bloody hell didn't you qualify the car further up the grid me son? ;-) Real shame he retired, but I was enjoying his race, till his and Webber's ended within a couple laps. Clearly Red Bull have issues in the reliability department methinks...

Everyone knows that million-to-one chances happen 9 times out of 10; indeed, it's a common requirement in fairy tales. If the human didn't have to overcome huge odds, what would be the point? Terry Pratchett - The Science Of Discworld

DC had problems with his gearbox in quali I think.
Lewis wasn't much faster in the last part of the race, massa was just in control and saved the engine as much possible for the next grandprix.

Yeps, possibly a heritage from McLaren (100% finishes this season), which came along with Newey. ;)

DC finally showed his worth.
Man of the race imo.
Showed Webbo up imo.

"Trulli was slowing down like he wanted to have a picnic" LOL
in the interview after the race, Ron said that Massa wasn't doing anything put pushing all the way to the end, implying that Lewis was genuinely catching him, and not that Massa was just taking it easy.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael
So now Ron can already see what massa is doing, hmm interesting.

well they were doing mid 1:34's at the end, on hard tyres that are supposed to be 0.5s a lap slower than the medium ones. The fastest lap in the race was a low 1:34, so based ot hat its safe to assume they were pushing pretty hard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nick Heidfeld - driver of the year to date?

incredibly consistent, reliable, great quali performances... and in each race has found a way to get ahead of, and stay ahead of, one of the *big four* in a car which clearly is not nearly on the same pace

and he's showing up kubica big style

some very under-rated performances by Nick
