Prodrive submits entry for F1

David Richards' Prodrive has submitted an entry for the 2008 Formula One Championship they announced today. At least 12 other teams have submitted an entry already for the 2008 F1 championship.

"Formula One is still regarded as the pinnacle of motorsport and therefore a natural next step for Prodrive," said Richards in a statement.

F1 supremoe Ecclestone said there will be a maximum of 12 places available and thus it is expected Prodrive will have to challenge Paul Stoddart's Minardi team, who applied earlier this week.

Now 13 teams have entered, while only 12 teams are allowed. How are the FIA gonna solve that?

hmmm, i think Prodrive would be better as they are a highly proffesional company with a serious pedigree in racing cars. I would rather have them on the grid than Paul Stoddys budget basement cars.

McLaren's B team were still a thought in an interview with Ron Dennis in this month's F1 Racing... That'll make 14...

But then given the choice of Prodrive or Stoddart, who would you think Mosley would pick...? Not exactly a difficult decision for him really...

They could do the best thing and allow all teams to race. why only 12 teams anyway? why not 13 or 14?

Or why not allow many teams to apply, and have a huge qualifying effort, like it was in the early 90's...Only 24 grid slots, and too many teams to fit on them. That would make qualifying more interesting, as some teams won't race.

I read the problem is that there is only enough box for 12 teams in modern track as they are much more bigger than in early 90's.

so bad...

well at a race weekend the majority of teams operate out of the side of a truck with an orning... no reason why they can't do that, as they did in the early 90s

Yes but hey, it's FIA! ;)

They can do like in the early 90', the less important team can fight to pre-qualify and then, the one(s) who will be qualified can take the last(s) box(es).

there is no way in hell you'll get an F1 team operating out of an awning. it's bad enough when we have to do it with the ffords...

Pardon?!

Didn't Prodrive have quite a bit of influence in BAR?

At the Autosport Intl show the Prodrive guy said they were going to have a busy year with BAR, which incedently was 2004.
