I fail to see why this rule should be considered subject to negotiation. It is a rule in here and thus has to obeyed. Full stop.

One sig pic displaying a spoiler race result splashed over the forum and two posts in the GP4 screenie thread spoiled the Hungaroring race result for me, :-( GRRRRRRR

Whens a good idea I can get a new sig?

Ie. when does info about the race not become a spoiler?

This question has been answered in the first post. I should slap you for asking questions about a policy you have not even bothered to read :P

Actually, having been the one on the watch after the race, it was a hell of a lot more. The performance of the community has been haphazed at best, downright ridiculous at worst.

This policy has been in effect for 1½ season. We have had requests for it week in and week out for 3 years. And in the moment of truth, when it really mattered, far too many users displayed either ignorance or simply didn't care.

personally i still think if you dont want to have any clue as to the race result, avoid the potential in the first place. as a growing community, there will always be newbies and old timers alike both excited and having not read the forum rules who may pose such a race resulting spolier.

avoiding, particularly an f1 forum after a race really, to me, just makes sense.

however, thinking logically via a metaphor, if you dont want to know what your're getting for christmas, dont go into your parents' bedroom in december...

You do that then. In the meantime, we will do this.

Hey, danm wrote a good argument, if you dont want to know the result or what surprise your parents have for your christmas then dont look for it. Why we should be bothered to wait till everyone knows to speak about it and update our signatures (i.e. Button @ hungary) ?

My dad always record the games of our favorite soccer team when he isnt at home, but I watch it before he does. Although he want to watch it later, he always ask me before how the game ended :S

I would like to know how the others will answer to danm's argument :P

The argument that danm put forth has been put forth many times. It has also been discounted several times. If danm wants to stay away when he hasn't seen the GP, then I won't stop him. As I posted, he is free to do so.

However, this is a FORUM. Our lifeblood is visitors. There are several forums, that are not the F1 forum, or even have ANYTHING to do with F1. Yet, if we do not enforce the spoiler policy, you cannot visit any of the forums here, without risking spoilage of your race.

A signature picture that announces Buttons first win is really a problem for the dude that went into the other games forum, and sees that sig. It is a problem for us, because people will on a regular basis opt out of coming here. This is not fantasy. Try and search and see how many times this, in various guises, has happened.

Imagine your favourite GP4 modder misses the race, but has a release due on monday. No spoiler policy, and he doesn't appear. No one knows whats going on, and you get these threads where people ask endlessly "Where is he, when is the release, what is he doing?" In reality, he is just waiting 5 or 6 days to see the race his friend taped, because he had to babysit his sisters son during the race, but he can't come and say that, for fear of a simple signature or random post can he?

These things cascade like ripples in water, to the detriment of the overall enjoyment of these forums. This is the problem that the spoiler policy solves. Even if you cannot see it, it is for your own benefit, because it keeps this place alive and vibrant.

I don't care if you are against the spoiler policy, as long as you respect it. Say "NO" all you want, but you won't change anything. I am not trying to convince you of anything either. However, if you want the spoiler policy to change, it is a mandatory requirement that another and better way of solving this problem is presented. This has hitherto NOT been done.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.
