Formula 1 team bosses Frank Williams and Ron Dennis have suggested that the new qualifying system may undergo some tweaks before the start of the European season next month.

The three-part format, featuring two knock-out sessions followed by a shoot-out for the 10 fastest drivers, was generally well received and regarded as a big improvement on the unpopular single-lap qualifying used since 2003.

The first two sessions saw some nail-biting moments as teams and drivers waited to see who would make the cut.

But the final shoot-out was judged a more qualified success

The third session desperately needs a change. Personally, i think it should be identicle to the first two sessions (there's no need for the extra 5 minutes). Let them decide on their race fuel loads before a set time after qualifying.

I think the 110% rule is very interesting, so i think that for the third session, the 10 cars should say to FIA what strategy are they going to use for the race. Then they'll qualify with low fuel as the other two session, doing at least 4 attempts to make a fast lap. And if, for example, a driver makes the second attempt 110% slower than the first one, they should apply the rule. After the end of qualy those ten cars should go to parc ferme with the fuel for race and that's it.

The only thing wrong with qualifying is the first 10 minutes of the final session. Everything else is pretty much perfect.

I think the first 10 minutes of the final session is the only thing they'd change anyway. :)

GOD!

First they complain that there will be no cars going around the track. Then they get the cars, but they are going too slowly...

How about having a appache helicopter trying to shoot them (alla top gear) with paint. People who get hit shall be elliminated or have 0.3seconds added on to their overall time. That will make them drive fast!!!

I was thinking, like a couple above, that they tell the FIA their strategy before the final session. I think that way they haveto take in everything that may happen, their driven may qualify first, but have gone for heavier fuel load expecting to be further back. What do you think?

why not extend the first 2 parts to 20 minutes each, with 5 minute breaks in between, then make the final session only 10 minutes long, and leave the fuel rules as they are currently (low fuel for 1 and 2, race fuel for 3).

so even though they will want to waste fuel, they can't go 8 seconds slower per lap for 10 minutes, because there is very limited time, so they'll have to do competitive laps straight away.

it might take away from the spectacle slightly for the first 2 sectors, but the 3rd would be a climax, not an anti-climax.

but tbh, i though it was ok as it was, a bit of a lull but it slowly built to a climax at the end of sector 3, so i don't mind really.
