i can't believe how much time you guys loose making these calculations......, god, look i don't think HONDA is an enterprise that doesn't know what theyr doing, and especially in f-1, or any of these teams......, it's just common sense to think that they just don't choose a driver and say, ok, he's gonna get this for that....... c' mon put some thinking on it.......

and same goes for those who thinks ralf got into f-1 because of his lastname.. if that was the case he'd be out by now...., just look at andretti.....

cheers

Asif... i meant asif JB would take it easy because hes earning.

i dont think Mansell quite understands that JB is actually doing the one thing he has worked so hard for.

I dont think he realizes that JB wants to win.

:/

ok, JB has made the most pathetic comments, but this. well you would not expect from Mansell.

Talking about money...

any1 have a clue about personal sponsers, ie Loreal for Micheal. or well was. any1 see the advert? ;) haha it was ace!

but Chet, when you're earning silly amounts, no matter how much you "love" doing the job, the fact that you're a millionaire without achieving anything must have some influence on you.

i mean, if you were only getting 50K, and a huge bonus for a podium or win, think how much more hunger and fire there would be in your belly to succeed.

Jenson is what, 25? if he retired tomorrow, he'd never have to work again. that's the thing Mansell is on about.

there is that level of comfort in his life that Nige is saying wasn't there in his own younger days, when they had to struggle to get each meal on the table every day before making it big.

it's not just something in F1, but mainly in football also. when they're earning 100K a week (a week goddammit!) why should they try any harder?

Salary caps have been discussed recently, it has been used in the US in other sports and seems to work. Gotta agree with you Muks, 100k is more than enough when sponsors give you free this and free that all the time.

No, they're not queueing up with offers because i'm not a professional racing driver.

"when they had to struggle to get each meal on the table"

Really?

I heard from very reliable sources that Mansell was better off than a lot of the drivers racing at the same time.

Mansell was nearly broke before he got into F1. When he was hired by Colin Chapman he did start to earn good money.

there are many stories of drivers in those days having to sell their houses and live in caravans and having other day jobs to fund their racing.

not just Mansell.

but it's more a comparison of the different era's than specifically between Mansell and Button.

if you're half decent, a get a contract for a year or 2, you can be financially set for life, nowadays.

button woul dbe a fool to try winning. theres much more risk in fighting for the lead rather than sitting happily in fifth or sixth. and what if he goes for the race winning pass, clips a wheel, ends in a barrier and loses his 16 million salary.
don't expect much from bottournikova this year

these people that spent hours building a track for gp4.. for free..., let me ask you, you're doing that because you love it......, but what happens if someone offers you 100 dollars for one track?., you'll do it even better, right?

that'a exactly what happens with these guys, they love what they're doing, it doesn't matter how much money they earn they'll alwasy try as hard as possible..., it's not like all of you think it is.., the difference is they don't see it as a job, they see it as their lifestyle

cheers and keep drinking beer

yes but if you are getting 15 million dollars-a-year no matter what your results are, because that amount is in your contract, you're not going to try 100% for 100% of the time, whether you love it or not.

if you were getting only 50,000 dollars a year, but 1 million dollars for every win, or half-a-million for 2nd place, you would try 100% for 100% of the time, because you don't have the comfort zone of financial security. i don't blame Button, or any of the drivers or footballers, i'd grab whatever they offered me, but i would sure be more motivated to try harder if i was only getting a little bit of money as a salary, with huge performance bonuses.

DC was reputedly on 10,000 dollars per point or something like that for '05, and look how lively and rejuvinated he seemed, both in and out of the car.

His usual posts in here involving JB tend to be against me. So i assumed it was.
But meh.

Is the need for the high salarys because the need to keep a driver?

ie. MS getting 36mill so Macca dont poach him etc.
