ITV is funded by advertising money, so it's not realistic for them to show 90 minutes of action without any ads, even if they showed 5 adverts before the race and another 5 after the race.

think of the pressure from companies who want to have their adverts during the race, when they know people are glued to the screen, as opposed to before or after when people might not watch it as carefully.

Maybe the ads will take up 70% of the space, and the F1 will be in the corner...

I dont personally see why ITV abuse F1 with adverts...if there's a fottball match on they dont have ads in the middle of the halves do they?.... Yes i do admit though they have one or two breaks during the half time but nowhere near as many as F1.

Well if we look at it sensible, from the start to the end of a football match (excluding build up and run down) there is around 110mins. (90min+15min+5min added time). In this time, they have 2 advert breaks during half time (i think, someone correct that if its wrong). Therefore, F1s maximum length is 120min, we should only have 2 advert breaks in the entire race.

I think picture-in-picture advertising would make a lot of sense. Currently when the adbreaks are on, people get up and go to the toilet, make a sandwich, have a drink, or whatever, and don't see the ads. With PinP you'll be subconsciously hearing that DFS have their sale on.

I would imagine that Bernies pound of flesh ( or should that be kilo's sam? ) is a lot more than what ITV have to pay for their limited amount of Football coverage.

They have to reclaim there outlay otherwise they'd go out of business pretty quick, so thats probably the reason why they have like 5 adbreaks during the show.

Presumably the advertisers must pay a helluva lot more for the mid race adverts than say the ones before and after the race

Maybe thats why we still have the midrace adverts?

Oh without a doubt they pay more. If they dont pay more than ITV are missing a trick there

Agh yr a bunch of nit-pickers. Looks like we'll have no coverage this year and last year TV3 showed 30 mins or 60 mins of highlights, depending on other commitments like weather forecast in Irish, and managed no less than seven ad breaks of 3x30 sec ads in each. I can tell you, that absolutely ruined those races where Kimi was charging through. I blame Eddie Jordan for selling up and losing any perceived Irish interest.

Here in Brazil TV Globo doesn't interrupt the race with ads. During the race only the logos of the sponsors are shown on the top-left corner of the screen from time to time. Commercials are exhibited before the transmission begins, after the first comments with the cars on the grid commercials are shown again, there are no commercial during the race, only between the chequered flag and the podium. The races are transmitted like that for a long time. It really annoys me when they show the race in small pieces. I can't watch Motorsport Asia on ESPN Inernational because they show 5 minutes of an race, stop for a 4-min break and then show more 5 minutes of the race. I confess I change the channel.
