Maybe Ron was finally getting tired of seeing grey all the time and thought chrome would look more funky.

I cannot even fathom "Ron Dennis" and "funky" in the same sentence...

The mclaren is far away from the midland , midland has much white and much red , mclaren only has minor red and only jw sponsoring is in white , the lines are whole different then the midland and midland doesnt have chrome on their car , midland has dark grey and the mclaren has black so there is MUCH difference

people generally think of chrome as being tacky, but i think it looks pretty cool if used in the right amount and in the right places.

i think Trulli and Fisi's helmets looked better when they switched to chrome.

this i fear may be too much, although i do generally like it.

the models are gonna be pretty good, gonna have to snap one up when it comes out!

@ LS, the picture of puke you posted didn't show up.

@ Covfan, the pic you posted of the Merc engine isn't very accurate, it isn't covered in extinguishant and lying all over the place in a million pieces ;-)

Think that was Jean Alesi, he was set for a podium in Monaco 98 or 99 but his car failed with 2 laps to go or seomthing like that, he wore a special chrome helmet for that race....

but it does also apply for MS, as he had this helmet just for Suzuka '98, and ended up stalling on the grid from pole, and starting at the back, then getting a puncture and retiring.

Chrome has been around a long time. CART helmets use it alot, in 1997 a NASCAR ran with a pure chrome scheme too. its nothing new

mclaren drivers never wore chrome helmet. the bad luck of them is much higher than the sum of the grid.

well black attracts heat more than any other colour. so maybe mclaren may now get to the finish.

Whoever thinks that the colour of a helmet does have something to do with luck/bad luck needs to have his head checked.

lol with the Lucky Charms.

the helmet thing is only driver superstition, i wasn't necessarily saying it is true. and i don't think the fact that the helmet was made to be chrome that is supposed to be the bad luck, it's the fact that they changed the design, which i heard Alex Wurz talking about in an interview a few years back.

mind you, MS changed him helmt part way through 2000, when it became mostly red, and we all know what happened for the next 4-5 seasons, so it can't be all that much bad luck.

Just to say that MLAM is right. Alesi has the first chrome helmet when he was in Sauber.

His helmet was very beautiful, specialy on the Prost in 2001 ;)
