Tommy Byrne said recently that he realised how fans associated drivers with their helmet livery, yet he was too late to pick this up.

Maybe the fact that so many drivers now have completely uninspired helmet designs reflect the fact that the car is so much more important, Doesn't matter who's sat in it.

Coulthard actually has one of the most recognisable helmets. But it is still littered with commercial sponsonrs which hinder the small areaq a driver still has for self expression.

A nice example is to look at Fisichella's helmet when he was first in F1 with Minardi, compare it to his current design. Essentially the same, but what a mess he has on his head now.

i wonder if that is a temporary design to run along side the original Mclaren orange used for testing purposes?

well if thats the case, the artists made a dramatic cock-up because that helmet livery does not gel at all with the orange of the mclaren.

personally, i dont like it. too dark and boring tbh. i think there is something to be said for the number of helmet changes drivers are now taking, which means they lose their identity.

Well is gonna look even worse against the silver and black

I agree with you , but i like this helmet and Doornbos new helmet aswell
