Credit where its due. He's absolutely right. And although Jenson will probably be higher in the standings come October, I don't think it will stop people forgeting him.

I agree 100% with Irvine JB has to beat Rubens this year or i fear that the forum will again become a Button Flame Zone :-)

Show me a driver that wouldn't of got trashed by MSC at Ferrari. At least when he first showed up in F1, Irvine unlapped himself against Senna. He nearly won the championship against the MIGHT of Hakkinen and McLaren,

He was no real champion, but he was a much better driver than

a) People give him credit
and
b) Jenson Button

IMHO

Button beat JV when literally the whole team was against him, while they all loved JB, under the leadership of David Richards.

and JV was never as good as he was in his first couple of seasons in f1 when he was with BAR.

Button got wasted by both Fisi and Trulli while he was at Benetton/Renault.

i think they'll be fairly evenly matched (JB and Rubens).

If Button had done that in 1998 then fair enough, but JV is'nt a benchmark any longer

Depends on the circumstances

(a) if they had equal status in the team
(b) if they had ross brawn calling the strategy
(c) if they had the same specific technical team around them like michael does

put Kimi or Alonso in that team with 100% equal status and the same resources then we'll see who's the best

LMAO!! So because irvine unlaps himself on a track he said he knew very well from his formula nippon days ( or whatever ) he's suddenly a great driver?

Irvines always will be seen as a joke rather than a credible driver

example, when he was at ferrari he was always saying how fantastic michael was, now he no longer works for ferrari he is slagging him off at every oppotunity, at what point do irvines comments become credible?

you could level the same thing about Flav and his dislike for Button, didnt he manage Trulli back then? and he has also had a soft spot for Fisi

button was doing a better job than trulli until they signed alonso.

eddie was always a number 2 driver, dont think he ever got a pole and needed drivers to help him win races he never led a race from the start. He needed mclaren mess ups to even have a chance of the championship.

There were races ms was winning and eddie was in 6th

I reckon about the same time as yours. Its better to "have been" then a "wannabe"

spot on.

but irv is right.

if he doesnt beat rb, and beat him good then people will no longer think of him as a Number1 and think of him as well Irv ;)

but yes if JB doesnt beat him, i will no longer think of him as high as i do. but the difference is i know he will beat rubens ;) :]

Yes ok, maybe Irvine wasnt the greatest driver the world has ever seen. but he still has eyes, ears and a brain and a VERY VALID opinion!

Jenson hasnt achieved a thing yet!

guess who said that,LS

yes but eddie never acheived anything until 1999 he has been in f1 since the end of 1993.

It took him 5 years to win a gb, and he only won that race as DC, Mika broke down and MS stalled and had tyre probs

do people think of him as a no. 1 driver currently? ;)

he's been paired with the Crashmaster General in Crashuma Crasho for the past couple of years, so he's no.1 by default.
