they seem alright, but the long life parts and punishment didnt really work this year. (blah blah mclarens fault...)
weight penalties would be ok i guess, as it atleast still gives the driver a chance

i agree with the proposals in general tbh.
long life will teach people like mercedes and mclaren that the ruddy car has to be reliable.
Renault showed in Shanghai they had a car just as fast as Mclarens if they wanted it to be.......

I don't understand how they talk about lowering costs and still go through this massive V8 program. But anyways, I just want to voice out an issue regarding new teams: you pay $47 million dollars for a spot, setup the whole thing and spend hundreds of millions and yet, you can only receive money back from broadcasting after 2 years. Way to go with these brilliant plans to steal money from the teams and put it in the hand of a select few!

Gui i also believe the entry bond rules are changing for 2008 so as to allow more teams

but still, Super Aguri won't get any TV revenue until 2008 anyways!

If you had followed F1 longer than since 98 these rule changes would not really worry you. F1 rules have always changed and we have seen even more drastic changes and everytime the rules changed people started to write requiems for F1. Get over it and grow up (obviously LS is excluded, since he's even older than me).

us younger fellas have seen enough rather questionable changes to take the next one with an appropriate grain of salt

Applying a weight penalty is a far, FAR better idea than a 10-place grid penalty. Still not ideal, but much better. Previously, teams such as Minardi, Jordan etc. were able to change engines without a massive penalty, and they yet were the ones who sought to reduce costs by using fewer engines.

I'm not keen on the CDG wing either, I think the alterations to bodywork and tyres - coupled with standard ECUs - will do enough to solve the problem without resorting to artificial means.

The one rule which looks ominous is this one:-

* Expensive new technologies which give a team an advantage and are subsequently adopted by other teams will be banned after one season

Purpose: To reduce costs. The aim is to allow a team that discovers a new technology to benefit from it, but prevent F1 as a whole then spending money on the same technology only to leave all the teams in the same relative positions as before.

Erm, excuse me? There's a line to be drawn between creativity and pursuance of economy, and for me, this one lies way over the wrong side of the line.

Other than those 2 things, I'm pleased with the proposals, as a fan.

F1, like any other business, is about bargaining. The FIA will always suggest more rule changes than it can realistically get, so that they get the ones they really want.

Yeah, it's a bargaining point at the moment. It gives Max something to talk with manufacturers about and he'll compromise quite a bit to get them back on board. The one that really does my head is the 19k rev limit. With V8 engines tightly specced as it is, where is the competition? In 2 years all the engines will put out exactly the same power in exactly the same ranges. Might as well have a single engine and be done with it.
Oh, btw, I'm old enough to remember the change to rear engines. Now that really caused a fuss!

well i guess it is due to a possibility of a limited engine supply

that'll be a good way to reduce costs
