Villeneuve's point seems to be proved by motorcycle racing, where competitors run without mirrors. Bike racing generally sees a great deal more overtaking than F1, and collisions are a rare thing. While i am rather neutral on the whole subject.comparing F1 and motorcycles is a bit silly. With bikes it's easier to hear your competitor and you can move your head(you can do the same in F1 but you won't see much) or even the whole body.Collisions also are far more dangerous in bikes.
Also the lack of mirrors has it's effect on overtaking but IMO it's not the main reason.
Oops,Nidgel got it first.
