Jacques Villeneuve believes that grand prix racing would be made more exciting and safer if wing mirrors were banned.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nigel Roebuck in this week's AUTOSPORT magazine, Villeneuve said that if drivers were unable to see exactly what was behind them they could not try to block overtaking moves.

Do you think in 94/97 that Hill/Villenuve would have went for the gaps that were left if they knew MS had no mirrors?

Its stupid, but this is the reasoning behind it i think.

Motor cyclists are able to turn their shoulders whilst riding.

An F1 driver would be lucky to see anything beyond 90 degrees, or maybe even less with the HANS being used.

JV has finally lost it...

motorcylec tend to be smaller than f1 cars, and dont need the room to pass.

Villeneuve's point seems to be proved by motorcycle racing, where competitors run without mirrors. Bike racing generally sees a great deal more overtaking than F1, and collisions are a rare thing.

While i am rather neutral on the whole subject.comparing F1 and motorcycles is a bit silly.With bikes it's easier to hear your competitor and you can move your head(you can do the same in F1 but you won't see much) or even the whole body.Collisions also are far more dangerous in bikes.

Also the lack of mirrors has it's effect on overtaking but IMO it's not the main reason.

Everything in the past is better than today.It's true,I read it on the internet.

To be honest i can see where JV is coming from as well, it would stop drivers blocking on the str8 (MS Af Silverstone).

It would also make the drivers think a bit more, 9 time out of 10 they dont see cars coming passed in there mirrors, they are as JV says only using them to block

i think jacques doesn't remember his father's death. i say he died bcause mass didn't see him bcause the mirrors sucked!!!
