There are 2 Italian races, 2 German races. Why not a second Japanese race?
I like the look of the Fuji circuit. God you can tell that Tilke designed that last section though. He loves those narrowing corners. It is god damn annoying. The cars go through there too slowly. It is just a waste of a perfectly good bit of race track. Maybe he is trying to replicate the stadium section of Hockenheim? But Fuji would make a better addition then Bahrain, Sepang and to a lesser extent Shanghai. Shame to lose Suzuka though. But that is life. Nothing lasts forever.
And as for that crap about F1 losing to GP2, DTM, Masters, et al, F1 would still piss all over the ratings for those other categories, plus, F1 is a world wide event, not just belonging to a select few European nations. Only A1GP travels all around the world and GP2 is a significantly better category then A1GP.
I only follow DTM because of Hakkinen. My interest will leave when he does. Masters is an interesting concept but can they bring it to a world wide audience? GP2 is an exciting category, but is limited to Europe at the expense of the rest of the worlds major emerging markets.
Plus, the whole technological thing with F1. That is why a lot of people watch it. Many of the people who watch F1 don't give a crap what circuit it is. Only the hard core know the nuances of each circuit. Hell, most people wouldn't even know even a quarter of the circuits name in its native language, let alone the names of the individual corners. I've followed F1 for 15 years now and I still don't know what many of the corners are. Except for a few of the big ones (Eau Rouge, 130R, Parabolica, the Bus Stop etc) I've never really bothered to take notice. But that doesn't mean I'm not a hard core F1 fan.
What I mean by all this is that for a vast majority of those who follow Formula 1 and who watch the races, the absence of 1 circuit will be of little consequence. They don't care what the circuit is as long as the spectical is still there, and even with the absence of good overtaking, the spectical is still there.
