It just gets worse, suzuka dropped for 07

Bernie Ecclestone has reportedly granted Toyota's wish by adding the renovated 'Fuji Speedway' to the 2007 calendar. Toyota, with the Cologne based grand prix team, also owns the track situated at the foot of Mt. Fuji in Japan.

Fuji hosted the pinnacle of racing in 1976 and '77, but every other F1 race in Japan has been staged at Suzuka, run by arch carmaker-rival Honda.

'Sources close to the negotiations' told Japanese publication Asahi Weekly that Ecclestone, the F1 boss, and the FIA, have decided - but not announced - the Fuji coup. Suzuka's F1 contract runs out in 2006.

i'd like half the races to be permanent historical ones (monza, spa, etc)
and the other half to be changeable.
europe gp at estoril/nurb/imola/pal ric etc
japanese gp at suzuka/fuji...

but not much money money money in doing that. so we'll be stuck with the track with the richest owners from now until f1 implodes.

in the last few years alone theres been dtm, gp2, a1gp, masters gp, that can all realistically challenge f1 for viewers in europe.
dtm has the names, gp2 has the action, masters has the history etc etc.
f1 is getting its arse kicked right now

Let the fans make a circuit, then you'll get some overtaking

Or let the drivers design a track, and then have someone like Tilke design the facilities etc. around their design because even though Tilke designs great trackisde facilities, the tracks themselves can sometimes leave a bit to be desired.

As for Suzuka, it's is a different track the others because of it's crossover, not to mention the fact that it has some fantastic corners, it really sucks to see it go.

It's not impossible that both circuits could be on the calendar. Since we have a European GP, it's not inconceivable that the Pacific Grand Prix could make a comeback.

and now they only have to drop monte carlo and then the F1 has officialy died (of course if they wont race in monza and spa).

Fuji is an excellent track! As with all circuits, some of the safety modifications have neutered it slightly (IMHO) but it's still a fantastic circuit. Suzuka is a classic circuit to drive, but really overtaking is limited to spectaular do-or-die moves... nice to watch occasionally, but it's rare.

I only know about Fuji from Gran Turismo 4, there's the 80's layout with no chicanes, the early 90's one with chicanes, and the latest version with the little 'infield' section.
