well, kinda - it just covers them if (when) they suck "we're not bmw yet, transitional year" etc.

if they're half decent in 2006, it'll just be BMW in 2007

if they're useless in 2006, it'll be SAUBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...................................................................................(bmw) in 2007

As above.

It insulates BMW from any failure this year.

Regarding Ron Dennis keeping the McLaren name. Thats just sensible actually. If Ron had renamed it to "Project 4" it would of lost too much heritage and soul of the company. Maybe Pooky could help here. Do the McLaren family still own any part of McLaren. (I know the DC 40%/ RD 30% and MO30% deal) maybe it was part of the deal for Ron and Mansour to buy it that they would rename?

Im sure when Frank Williams retires (or more likely dies as I cant see him selling voluntarily) whoever buys should keep the name. I think thats why he didnt want to sell to BMW

True, FW would rather die actually than have someone buy out his team, so I think that whoever "inherits" the team eventually will have no choice but to keep the name.

In fact he's probably got some crazy contract on it somewhere.

Wouldn't surprise me anyway ;)

I could never imagine Fiat renaming Ferrari though. Unlike Minardi the Maranello squad have a rich history.

Minardi should direct his complaints to a bearded aussie with a rolex watch

And i don't think he is stupid enough to compare his team to Ferrari

Jordan won what 3 races in 14 years?
Minarid won nothing, how manypodiums is 19 or so years?
Sauber havent won in F1 but did resonably well in Sportscars.

Wheres the sporting history?

Of the teams still on the grid. Only Ferrari, Williams, McLaren and Renault/Benetton have ever won more than 10 races in their current setup. Honda have won in the past, but not as a full team that has stayed in F1 constantly.

EDIT FOR POOKY

Do you know if that was one of the criteria that Ron had to adhere to when he bought it back in the early 80s. I.e He couldnt change the name to "Project 4" Or did he choose not to change it?
