I agree with marcl: it looks 110% better on a real car.

Nice edit btw there Alex.

not mclaren's though. maybe they knew it was going to be planned and just banned sponsors from jumping on their rear wing!

are the FIA actually going to test this style of rear wing to make sure it works properly. it would be bloody stupid for the fia to make teams spend millions of pounds on this then we find out it dosnt work!

Well done to the FIA, they've had so many knee-jerk rule changes that they've finally managed to kick themselves in the head, I don't know if they were trying to show off their technical partnership, but agree with those who suggest that all they needed to do is lower the front wings again.

but lowering the front wing alone will make the front end more efficient and the car will be able to go round corners better, but following another car will still be a problem in corners, because the whole car will rely too heavily on the front wing, and with the dirty air off the back of the front car, the car won't be able to follow it closely.

instead I think they should make the front and rear wing smaller and less effective, and increase the mechanical grip with fat slicks, then the dirty air won't be too much of a factor because the following car won't care what kind of air its driving in, because it will be relying on its tyres to provide the grip round the corner, not its wings.

lowering the wing though will help following another car as its the front sliding at the mo that affects the cars its catch 22.

But maybe this year also had alot to do with the one tyre rule. As we saw if u lock up a tyre trying to pass someone that was your race over, so people never risked it

but lowering the wing only helps the car to follow another car in straight line, going round a corner in someones dirty air loses you front-end grip, as you're getting 'used' air over and under your front wing.

the front end sliding could be changed by improving the grip from the tyres, the wing could be left alone, or made less efficient.

remember, we need the cars to be able to follow closely through corners.

i mean go back to the low front wings as at 1990.

I still think alot of this problem is due to the grooves the cars are just sliding too much

Yes, and presumably the proposed wing will create less drag reducing the ability to slipstream.

i have to say im totally on your wave length Muks_C when it comes to your ideas on what should be done.

there was an artical in autosport which backs up what I was saying.

The problem is not due to the rear wing, they need to lower the front wing to get it out the bad air and also make the rear work like GP2 create a venturie (spelling)

I am shocked to find out the FIA have done no wind tunnel tests, no rolling simulation and the only computer test was with a car using the exact same line as the car in front.

The the car pulls out either to the left or right the air is gonna be more disturbed than it is now.

In other words the FIA have probably messed up yet again

its so simple

we rely on aero grip far more than mechanical grip at moment

and the way that continues overtaking will always be hard

just cut the downforce down, and go to slicks

about the FIA not testing it yet marcl,

the boeing 777 was entirely designed on computer

so have faith in them.

acording to garry anderson u can not test these things on a computer they can not take into account angles, wind, road surface etc.

It needs testing on the track and he feels the problem is with the hight of the front wing which is now right in the dirty air and having it lower will take it out the air.

And we have seen what happened to f1 cars and even the merc sports car that time when they have not been tested properly. People reply to much on computers
