Not sure TBH. I used to have a japanese classmate back in high school, and I remember her saying something about that, but I wasn't sure how much one is able to understand the other language. Besides, they are fundamentally different...Chinese is monosylabic (sp?) and japanese is polisylabic...

Interesting... I had a russian and a south african classmate in high school, it was something a bit weird. The russian classmate was just interested in computers and he didnt give a damn to the lessons, while the south african couldnt understand a single lesson. O_o
