Red Bull Picks Scott Speed As 2006 Third Driver...

"Red Bull Racing is due to announce that Scott Speed is to join the team as test and reserve driver next year. The news means that one of the three current Red Bull Racing drivers is going to find himself in trouble as there is no room in the team for both Christian Klien and Tonio Liuzzi. It remains to be seen what will happen but it is thought likely that whichever driver is not chosen to be the second driver will walk."

I guess this means Liuzzi will get his walking papers after the season...

According to Autosport, it looks like Liuzzi is the favoured one to stay.

they are idiots if they get rid of Klien, and also i think the F1 Friday Job will hamper speed next year in GP2. This year he is 3rd and the only top driver not to win a race...i doubt he will win one next year with the added pressure of doing those laps on Friday.

Is it certain that he will be in GP2 next year?

That i do not know....but it would be best if he stayed tbh. No point just sitting out season and doing just testing AD style while his rivals are most probably going to be racing during the season.

Looks like Redbull will have 4 race drivers next year.. They are gonna buy Minardi team and rename it to "RedBull USA"! 8)

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

Scott Speed deserves a testing chance, but not a race drive yet IMO... so I hope those Minardi stories are just stories!

I saw the Minardi story too. I don't know if Red Bull is really serious or not, but they do have a backlog of drivers in their Red bull feeeder program.

Honestly, I think the only way Liuzzi will remain is if he get a couple of podiums in the final races he will drive after Monza. Otherwise I think Klien deserves to stay. He has shown pretty good pace all things considered....

I don't think Paul Stoddart will sell Minardi to Red Bull. Because I read he would only sell the team if it was good for the team and I don't think this is good for the team.

Over the last couple of years i stopped getting the impression that Stoddart is acting for the benefit of his team.

To me it's more like a tool for his political(FIA?GP**? anything else?) and other ambitions.

As for Klien vs Liuzzi this year showed what difference an extra season makes.I hate to be a pessimist but the net result would probably leave one of them disappearing completely off the F1 scene.Which would be a shame.

I want Speed as second driver not as third driver...
i don't have problems when Christian Klien would leave Red Bull...

There must be an american driver in the F1...

I'd like to see next year's Red Bull team consisting of DC and Liuzzi in the race seat and Scott Speed in the third seat. Klien is good, but I think Liuzzi deserves a chance. He was as good as Klien with half as much experience, so he could turn out to be really good.

And Scott Speed is a fantastic marketing tool.

If you want a yank in F1, why not Marco Andretti. He looks quick enough, but daddy doesn't seem to want him to come to Europe and upstage him. Would rather he spends his whole life going left.

The word is that Mario wants Marco to get into F1 and is trying to groom him to do so. The problem lies with Michael, as he remembers his own disastrous efforts with McLaren and is reluctant to allow Marco to give it a go.

Why anyone would want to spend their entire career racing on ovals is beyond me...

Just to throw my weight into the Klien vs Liuzzi comparison, yes I agree that Klien has done the better job overall this season, and if anyone is going to get the job for 2006, I'd prefer it to be him.

Michael just wants Marco so he can replace Wheldon/Kanaan when they get bored. Marco seems to be as good as Mario, whereas Michael was a spoiled brat who got an easy break with Newman-Haas, and then had his arse caned by Senna. He's bitter, that's all

Why?

He's a decent driver, with a great name for a racing driver (although it is a bit cheesy). He represents the key to an American interest in F1. The Yank market is absolutely huge, and F1 needs to break into it further than it's done already. I hope that Speed gets a race seat, ideally with Red Bull, in 2007.

why does f1 need to breal into the us market?
the us doesnt generaly like playing with others and prefers making its own games with its own rules. there's been a lot stronger reasons than scott speed for american interest to lighten up, but it hasnt happened.
