Has F1 lost the plot ??

A few years ago we had Thursday practice (4 days of spectators to view F1).

Then it was reduced to a Friday start.

Now all we get is a few hours practice on Friday and Saturday. And a ridiculous qualifying format on Saturday and Sunday !?!?!?!.

This has to have an impact on attendance at the GP's. Yes people may go now, but how long are people going to pay the inflated prices for a General Admission Ticket to see the cars for such a miniscule amount of time. After all isn't that why we go to these events. As for the new engine rules, don't get me started. F1 is about fast drivers and fast cars, that is what people want to see. These changes have been put into effect to reduce costs, as we know. I think if you can't afford to compete at the highest level (which I am seriously beginning to doubt that this catergory is). Don't do do it. But for f@#?!'s sake, don't go changing a tried and proven formula.

At the end of the day, it's about the the speed of the driver, the car and the effectiveness of the team.

Does anyone else think F1 is losing touch with the public. I'm open to criticism as I'm sure to get a bit.

apart from the qualifying bit, which might work out if they change it to friday and saturday instead of the current ridiculous situation i agree with knuckles.

at silverstone last year, i think it was practice 3, i was quite annoyed with how few cars were out on track cause they were saving their engines.

what i do think is a joke is that to find out who's got pole position i have to look on the internet or teletext!

for a start, since when has F1 had thursday practice? im sure your mistaken on that one, apart from monaco which doesnt have friday....

as for running, i dont think there is less now than there has been, bar on sunday morning. the friday is 2 1 hour sessions, even when we had friday qualifying it was virtually the same, as it has been for years, and sat morning warm up is no different again, to what it has been for years, 2 45 minute sessions.....

well this year there is hardly any running, in the practice sessions the race drivers only complete a handful of laps to save engines.
also the practice session as far as spectators are concerned is complete waste of time to watch.

...And we've also not yet had the first race.

But anyway; I totally agree with LS, what a joke not seeing final Qualifying.

the whole idea of having the 2nd qually session on sunday non-televised is preposterous. can whoever though of it not understand that they wanted 1 lap sessions so the smaller teams get more coverage (even though they don't necessarily cos people just don't watch half of the session), and so it actually needs to be on tv for it to work?

www.formulaone.com has live timings. Thats what i have to use since we only get the race here. We've only ever had the race in new zealand. Never practice or qualifying.

@ Marcl, we've had 8 years of compelete coverage of qualifying sessions, only now with the stupid FIA rules for qually they (rightly) decide not to show it. 5+ hours of F1 on a sunday is never going to happen, and the FIA should have though ofthis beforehand.

In Germany we get all the practice and qually sessions live. Not seeing q2 live in UK doesn't mean F1 has lost the plot - it just means that UK TV stations have.

No luck in S.A. they use ITV's feed,

I think 2003 qualy was the best format.

The FIA must sort this engine nonsensce out, they really are doing well in keeping the cars in the garage.

I think that the rule makers have lost the plot, they keep making rules to do one thing then another that wrecks it.

Firstly they wanted to reduce costs so they change the engine rules..but with such short notice that it actually increases cost to develop a new engine.

Also to reduce speed and costs they bring in a one tyre per weekend rule, however this in conjunction witht the engine rule means that drivers dont push durin the race to preserve tyre and newar the end of the rrace dont push in order to save the engine. They also dont overtake in case they lock a brake and flat spot their tyre.

They want to improve the show and make it better for the genral public to watch..so they introduce a qulifyin system that lasts two days and difficult takes half of the first session for the commentators to explain.

And the best one i think is this..
Organisers of the Aus GP, have stated many times that they will nt allow GPWC races ti be raced at their circuit and are in support of Bernie and the concorde agreement, and there fore the FIA
The fia yesterday tells them that they may lose their right to hold F1 races.

Now that is just plains stupid.because along with ferrari, the biggest bargaining tool taht bernie has is the contracts to major tracks around the world.
