Montoya's loosing weight in a record time

Montoya has lost 6 kilos and a half, more or less 14.3 pounds in just a month and a half.

An ex-soldier from the British Royal Marines Regiment is now Juan's new shadow. His name is Gerry Convey and he's at McLaren since February 2003. This research came after seeing the colombian with noticeable characterisitics on his face and cheeks at the final tests in Jerez.

The change is not strange. Ron Dennis, an obssesive person about the profesionalism and image of his drivers, told the man from Bogota "You should lose 15.4 pounds (7 kilos) before you get in the car in Australia".

His weight is now about 163 pounds (74 kilos), while at the brazilian GP he was about 180 pounds (82 kilos), which is his ideal weight while he's racing.

This is going to be even harder for Montoya, since Convey is going to be Juan Pablo's new neighbor in Monaco, from January and on.

He must fit into McLaren MP4-20, not like Wurz.

F1's very own Elvis!! I love how Montoya remains skeptical of the benefits of losing weight. Maybe it's more of a ballast issue, with less in the drivers arse they may have more set up options for different circuits!

Put it this way: has he won races? Yes

There is no problem then is there?

Who gives a f'ck what drivers look like anyway? This is F1 and not a casting show for brainless boybands. As long as the drivers are fast I coukdn't care less about their weight, height, hair-do or g/fs.

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour)

The thing is that a F1 driver needs to be in well shape, so he can stand the races, the flights, their necks, their arms so they can turn the wheel more easy.

Besides, this shows what Montoya we'll have to suffer while he's at McLaren. Williams used to tell him "Would be nice if you were fitter", but in McLaren is "You must be fit"

losing that amount of weight can only help him to be even more competitive than he already was.

Also JPM won the race at hockenheim in 2003 when it was scorching hot ( ask vader or morbid ;) ) and he got pole, set the fastest lap and won the race 67 seconds ahead of everyone else and lapped everyone upto 4th place

so weight is'nt a problem so long as you have the fitness

JPM has always had the stigma of being stocky but it has'nt effected the way he drives the car

And to quote the man himself

However, Montoya continues to sound sceptical about how much good losing weight will do him.

He told Marca newspaper: "Complaints about my weight have followed me throughout my career, but to tell you the truth, whenever I climb out of my car at the end of each race everybody else seems to be more tired than me

JPM is a good driver, this we already know.....he can win....he lasts the entire race...so why the weight issue?

remember Ron Dennis's pledge was we'll make u better if u came to McLaren

losing 15lbs is going to be huge....think of how much he would benefit over a lap (as MBenz doesn't have the strongest engine)...I know that was a weak point but in F1 its all about maxing everything...driver, car, team....everything

i'm also glad JPM is listening to his new team, we have not seen the best JPM can be....this is the point McLaren will (hopefully) be making

82 Kilos!!!!!!!!

Considering Montoya is a short guy (under 1.70m)... that's a lot of fat.

A good image for a Michelin ad...

I really hope he gets fit. He'd be even better then.
