The fuji race was delayed probably 3 or 4 hours, and it wasnt that safe to even start it, they had to in the end or it would have been too dark, it was streeming wet, wetter than since probably well since i can ever remember seeing really... no one wanted that race started.
At the ring, he crashed in the wet, and after a crash like that, so soon as well, it was hardly surprising he didnt want to risk his life in those conditions, remember this was in the days where people, were killed...
Having said that, take nothing away from hunt, he fully deserved that title, and matched niki, in what was a 4 year old design, it was out of date, and james got more out of the car than emerson ever did, in its prime, he had a stunning season, lots of bad reliability, and ferrari political games to contend with, which really evened out the races niki missed etc. Vastly under rated driver, Hunt, imho
