Ford did buy Jaguar from Jackie Stewart for an estimated sum of US $90 million. The annual Jaguar budget is around US $130 million.

Buying Jaguar will cost a few hundred million US $. Buying Jaguar's F1 section might be around US $ 150 million.

And how much pocket money do you get?

He started Stewart back in end of 96, ready for 97 season :) Was it from Tyrrel's spot? I forgot whom Stewart took over... I just know that you should watch the documentary "Flying Scot" or something like it, it's about Jackie and damn good :D

Amazing how a team so young had so amazing results! Rubinho said that their 99 car could become something special in the future, if the team progressed from it.

About the sale, it was valued in $80 million dollars, not 90 :p

Oh, and Matt, I have about 40 bucks.

nobody. It was built from his F3000 (or F3?) team. Tyrrell died in 1998 and BAR took over.

Correction: Ford did buy the Stewart team from Jackie and called it Jaguar.

Satisfied now?

the flying scot is a great documentory, not just on his time with stewart, but his career and life as a whole, living legend, and he still abides by his "i will never race again" statement, such a shame in many ways, especially when the revival at goodwood comes around, but just as much admarable, for the fact he has stuck to it

The documentary is truly great, and touching too. Hard to keep the tears away when he talks about Francois, it always makes me wonder "what if". My dad has to tell me stories about him... and my mom, well... she said he had beautiful eyes and was a hottie ;) Oh well, that's my mom :P

Vader, you stated that point before, you just missed the price by 10 million ;-) Please don't get upset and feel like strangling me (dark side powers come handy, huh?). I meant in a joking way :p

And Dave, thanks for clearing up... I had a feeling I was wrong, and didn't want to mess up also by putting Prost in the middle :|

so jaguar just finished their 5th season?
five is a nice round number - maybe jackie's got a 'get-back-in-cheap-in-five-years' deal...

Sell the Button to BAR or Williams and we are a bit closer to our aim.

Tyrrell sold the team to Craig Pollock in 1998, but was supposed to carry on as manager for one last season before retiring. He walked out in disgust, however, when Pollock forced him to hire Ricardo Rossett, because he had sponsorship money. Ken didn't want to run a pay driver.

Ken Tyrrell died in 2001.

BAR started out in 1999. In 1998 the team's name was still Tyrrell.

Ken Tyrrell died in 2001.

I ment the team died, not Ken himself

Dave, maybe he was just pointing out more "trivia" stuff to go along with his post :)

Which reminds me, on Jackie's documentary, he takes a picture with the same people he took a picture with when he was starting with Tyrrel, with him in the cockpit, and the guys around the car. I think they retook it in 98... not sure.

But poor Ken, basically forced to leave F1 :| What he did for Jackie (and Jackie did back) was truly a pretty story :).
