Formula One outfit BAR will not let Jenson Button wander down pitlane to old team BMW-Williams, the Brackley squad's principal Dave Richards vowed on Friday.

''We are determined this is not going to happen,'' said the Englishman who admitted he was as surprised as everyone else when Williams announced the deal.

Richards insists Button is under contract to Honda-powered BAR.

Button's manager John Byfield is thought to have invoked a 'get out' clause in the BAR deal by questioning the long-term commitment of engine partner Honda.

Team boss Richards said the fact implied a 'hidden agenda.

''There is absolutely no doubt Honda are committed,'' he said, although Honda's new engine deal with the BAR team is thought to include an open exit clause.

Button has 'ditched' 400 hard workers at the factory, Richards suggested.

''He's the guy who gets all the champagne and he (goes and) does this.

''Perhaps Jenson has been led ... down the garden path.''

taken from f1 central.... interesting, i can see a court case here.

He did exactly what I dreaded he'd do - believe his own hype. This is all ITV's fault and now BAR are paying for it.

This is crazy, I just read on F1-live 4 headlines about this!!!! :|
In case the move doesn't happen, it will be interesting to see who goes to Williams, and how Jenson's relationship with BAR would be for next season

Basically he's suggesting Jensons people have perhaps manipulated him, been led to believe that this was his best route of action or whatever.

I don't see how Jenson and Williams have a leg to stand on if what Richards has said is all true. He said that they took up the option on Jenson's services well before it expired and notified his manager. Honda just signed a new deal so where is the non-commitment?

Somebody more clever/with more info please divulge and tell me why Williams think it's all valid?

because Williams have it on good legal advice that BAR did not envoke the clause

it would be stupid though for Dave Richards to keep JB, JB has proven now he isnt totally commited to the team, and if he is 'forced' to stay at BAR it would be hugely detrimental to BAR i believe.

2013 - Nando must come through..

JB was 'owned' by Williams till the end of 2002 i think, then he was his own person after that, not owned by anybody. I might well be wrong though.

Casabonka, i agree with your post about JB's commitment.

i've read on teletext that BAR have arranged a face-to-face meeting with JB for monday to sort it out.

if i was button i reckon i would stay with BAR (depends on the $ though)

if they do things right they could be better than williams next year

i agree. he has pretty much had the upper hand over Sato this year, whether by luck or by design, but williams will treat both him and webber equally with no favouritism.

williams will not favour button like BAR does they will try as hard as they can to give both drivers as much support as you said Muks. I just think that if Button does Leave for Williams, his reputation will be a little tarnished.

I really dont think Button is 'favoured' by BAR as Schumacher is by Ferrari. You could say that Webber is 'favoured' by Jaguar. The fact is that Button is the better performing driver of the two, and as such the hype forms around him

DR clearly does favour 1 driver over the other. You can see the smugness on his face anytime he is on tv with JB.

your jus scared incase Button whips Webber :P

the title of this thread is misleading btw

and in teh long run Williams are the better outfir. In 2 years BAT will have to sell BAR due to the fag ban, so they have to find someone to foot the bill (perhaps honda) whereas Willaims are stable, witha longterm engine contract and stable (non-fag) sponsor roster

good move by Jenson IMO if it works out
