yeah, at arrows he nearly beat Villeneuve in a williams on fair terms, till his car broke, then won jordan their first race (ok, so loads of people crashed, but there is some skill in not crashing in those conditions)

Was irrelevant that loads crashed, Hill qualified 3rd on merit, he was lucky in respect that he was there when schumacher ran into the back of DC but thats all
