bi-directional comm

As you all know, this season teams are allowed to use bi-directional communication. That means that data from the car is not "read only" during the race, but can be edited from the pits. Whenever the team sees that the engine-temp is going up or other problems might occur, they can change the software setup in real time.
Since we all know, at least the major teams are intercepting each other's radio anyway, so if they have a good specialist it should be no problem to crack these transfer protocolls. My fear is that this "bi-directional comm" is not only a further incapacitation of the driver but also an invitation to sabotage. I find the idea scary that Williams might be able to blow up McLaren engines whereas Dennis can switch off Montoyas traction control at will. Of course Ferrari would never think about something like this ...

Oh Lol! What will you think of next! You do have some good points, but the radio would probably be encrypted, and it would be hard to decrypt. But your second post, well hey that would be fun. All Minardi and Arrows (and maybe Jaguar) need are a decent computer hacker. And muhhwaaa, we will be back to the situation in Melbourne. (the arrows wont stall on the grid.)

I don't believe this is to far fetched. Last season someone already hacked Renaults/Benettons software. It should be no problem, if not to encrypt data, but to interfere and thus corrupt the commands transfered to the car

we'll soon see if this will happen,

if DC swerves off the circuit and down a escape road in to town, we can expect another team be gulity of sending a taxi pickup request to his car :-)

ESSENTIAL OILS aren't essential unless you're an engine, a gearbox or a twat
