That's a real shame. Now the two inevitable questions then:

1) Who will replace Massa?

2) Why would you go to Valencia now?

Sad times. :(

Badoer or Gene should get the long-term stand-in position, but if I were Ferrari I would be on the phone RIGHT NOW to Flavio Briatore, offering a vast financial recompense to allow Fernando Alonso to drive in his home race.

Badoer is.

Well then my interest in F1 is back to the earlier 2009 levels then - non-existent.

One swallow does make a summer then, don't it. No use for me watching these fumbling dingbats(stewards, Bernie, Max, Fota) making stupid decisions and mistakes every week.

Schumacher would have brought the x factor back for me, a driver who just wants to do his best, not like these prima donnas of today who thinks the world owes them something.

But I understand and agree with his reasons - safety first, always.

Dont be so silly, he's not retarded, the sponsors want Alonso, wtf are they going to tell the sponsors.

All of which leads to the rather poor joke:

I hear Schumacher's not returning to F1?
Yeah, too much of a pain in the neck.

Kind of a disaster after all the hullaboo that was made over it. Wonder if them Monza tickets are refundable. Sensible decision by Schumi though when there would have been tonnes of pressure on him to race.

Iceman, I don't understand your post. Who's not retarded? Which sponsors?

Absolutely gutted! Understandable decision but I'm annoyed we all got our hopes up and have had them dashed. I now have no reason to look forward to the bore-fest that is going to be Valencia.

With you, Fincent. No Alonso, no Schumi. The best-case scenario now would be Vettel winning and Webber 2nd. For me anyway.

Agreed 100% there. If the ban on Renault racing in Valencia stands, that ban + Ferrari needing a Massa replacement + Alonso almost certainly going to Ferrari eventually anyway should make trying to recruit him now(if possible) the obvious choice. The way the circumstances have turned out seems almost to be sending Ferrari a message in that respect.

Its a bit of a shame indeed, it would have been another element to the second half of the season, which was looking to be exciting anyway.

He probably shouldn't have confirmed his return until he was absolutely sure he could come back. Also, it must be quite bad if they are already ruling him out for races until the end of the year, the last of which is almost 3 months away.

Anyway, hopefully Badoer can finally get that first point! I'm surprised they chose him over Spaniard Gene, but I would think they will look elsewhere beyond Spa.

I fee l so disconsulate,Shueyfan is right this should have all been finalised before the mention of the come-back. It's a big dissapointment for the sport, wich really could use something special right about now because despite there being one or two quick drivers out there, there is no one that quiet stirs the blood as this man did. Love him or hate him, .... even before he actually turned a wheel in anger in the 2009 Championship ..... yet here we are again with more M.S controvessey. Much more exiteing than any of the further races left on this years F1 calender for sure but never the less dissapointing ...... back to the memories and old videos I guess, that's the only interest that I hold for formula 1 right now and that's a fact, Max mosely could win the drvers championship for all I care.

As I said in the other thread Badoer FTW ;)

Realistically I hope he can get some points, maybe a podium finish, I can see it being a bit like Moreno standing in for Nannini :)

Gutted Schumi's not back though :(

as said as it can be ...........

no more real f1 , no more real schuey !

the guy had his lego broken , came back within months , no one could beat his qualy lap , he got out and beat it by a second !

the guy was disqualifuied from a championchip, came back and won five others

i know it 's a bit too far in the history , but in '87 piquets crash at imola , causes him problems with one of his eyes, something with seeing on long distance i think. but he doesnt tell the Williams team about that, comes back after the crash and gets the title ...

schuey may be 40 years old , but he just doesnt seem to have all that made him so great.
1) pushing to the limit and 2) getting the best out of the car.

now only the second is left, i guess ...........................................
