England vs Trinidad & Tabago *SPOILERS*

Posted by madotter
I personally think england have looked worse than they did in 98 :D Dunno about 2002, can't remember that so much (which is odd). We were good in 98. This style of attacking football is crap - only made up for by good strikes from gerrard. I am dissapointed that lampard is played to the detriment of gerrard though :( I would like to see carrick played instead of lampard but it isn't going to happen ever. Everyone likes lampard for some reason - all he does is shoot, and most of the time that is @#$%& and wasteful too - in fact if you take this world cup, all of the time ;)).

I guess we will see just how crap to watch / boring this style of play is when they play sweden.

On a side note, in teams of yesteryear, mcmanaman and fowler should have definately played, but since the media didn't particularly like them, they never got much of a chance really :( Fowler would still be good now actually - he doesn't have the legs, but he would have scored a load against paraguay and t&t, as we were attacking loads. In fact as long as you have owen or defoe or someone fast with him, it is okay he doesn't have the legs anymore. But bleh, managers and media pick the team, so it will never happen, and he will definately be too old before long anyway.

Gui may not be the be all and end all, but in the case of Mcmananman is "right all"

I agree, Mcmanaman was very overrated, an above average player for me and nothing else

Mcmanaman was good, whatever you happen to say. He was amazing for liverpool. If only he hadn't gone to real madrid.

I'm a Liverpool fan, and even I agree. Fowler too, though I am really loving his return to Liverpool. That's what the Bootroom should be all about. Is it just me, or is a Fowler the sort of person England are missing in the World Cup so far... a killer instinct in front of goal? There were a few calls for him before the finals, and maybe in hindsight, he's the sort of guy you'd have on the bench as a different option? Rose tinted glasses? Probably.

What Enland need is a big quick powerful striker someone in the mould of Italy's Luca Toni or Czechs Koller although obviously not as tall
And Dean Ashton is the nearest we have to one and he should have been picked.

I mean... crouch is tall and Rooney is powerful but we cant merge them together :P
And why bring Walcott when is never gonna play?

I guess getting 8 million pounds severance money no matter whats happens has its effect.

Crouch trying to hit the ball with anything below his neck is just laughable ;)

What a lovely volley, hard to hit with your shin even if you were really trying :p

Er you say fowler was crap but then you say maybe he should have been taken to the world cup? :S Okay :S

I don't see how either of them are overated - the press and media don't like either of them and nor do many football fans, so how you can say they are overated is a bit beyond me. Mcmanaman isn't what he used to be anymore, but in his liverpool days was amazing. He even managed it when he actually got picked for the real madrid side - scoring a great goal in the champions league final. Fowler is also past his best, but for both of them, the main thing they have lost is their pace, stamina and fitness - this is less of an effect for fowler, because of where he plays. Both could have done really well with there careers and had the talent to do much more than what happened - injury, bad transfer moves and unfavourability by media and england managers has stopped that for both of them really.

I don't see how you can talk either gui. Ronaldo is hardly "on top of his game". In fact, I'd say he's even worse than mcsheffrey at the moment, and that takes some beating.

I never thought McManaman played well even at Real Madrid. And Ronaldo is far from his best, everyone knows. I am not talking about his best 96-99, I am talking about his best since coming back from that horrible injury in 2002 (due to that he had to change his style but managed to surprisingly remain super effective and very important), and I think he will shows us in this World Cup he can still play well. He had a series of injuries this year so he couldn't get into a rhythm, and his latest ones he got hurt after a series of very nice games with goals. This messes up every single player and at the moment he's still working on recovering his fitness level but as the World Cup progresses so will he. Why do you think that even when he's on a bad phase the coaches keep him in? Because they know he may get a flash all of a sudden and play what he can. I believed in him fully in 2002 (the mood in Brazil was horrible) and I feel and am the same this time around.

I honestly believe this is the best World Cup dating back to 1986, if not further more (I don't recall 86 as I only watched Brazil's games on a rerun ;)), the overall level is amazing and is very promising :D

If England win their group they've got an amazing draw, amusing they keep going to the Final! :) Which is possible, because our toughest opposition between the group stages and the semi-finals are Holland. That's no disrespect to the Dutch BTW, it just means we'd avoid the likes of Italy, Czech Republic, Argentina and Spain right the way through until the final 4.

P.S. I know Brazil isn't in that list, sorry Gui but this year ain't your year ;)

Me? I never said either were crap. I said they were over-rated. But Robbie does have that quality that only Owen has in the current squad, the anticipation to know exactly where the ball will bobble to, and to kick it into the goal. Owen's not as good at it, but there's no-one else in the squad who can even list it as an ability.

Robbie shouldn't be in the world-cup squad, but we needed someone like him. Owen simply doesn't have the games under his belt. He played an entire 60minutes since Christmas prior to the season finishing. It shows. Badly.

Er if you bothered to read what I said, I said he was at his best for liverpool and rarely got a chance for real madrid, meaning his confidence and motivation dropped. Injury didn't help either.
