The problem with LMP cars over the last 20 or so years is that the floor plan is far too big, it's too light at the front, the car's too wide and too long, and as a consequence generates obscene amounts of downforce. They could restrict the width, but that'd lessen the crash impact zones in the event of a big one. Stepped floors and broken floor plans would lessen the lifting side of things.
