Spanish driver Xevi Pons will compete in the World Rally Championship with Subaru for the second half of the season and the whole of 2008.
Pons will drive a third Subaru car in the championship's last eight rallies, starting with Finland on 3-5 August.
The team will also have an option on the 27-year-old for 2009.
The former Citroen driver has competed in 52 championship rallies and achieved a best result of fourth before quitting in 2006 when he failed to find a drive.
"The logistics of running three cars instead of two will not present a problem for the team, bearing in mind we ran three cars in selected events last season," said team managing director Richard Taylor.
"We always maintained that we'd be happy to expand our team again if we could find a driver who is serious about his approach to the sport and Xevi fits that bill perfectly."
Subaru's main drivers this year are Norway's former world champion Petter Solberg and Australian Chris Atkinson.
Surprising, when you consider that Gardmeister, McRae(s), H Solberg etc are not signed up to works teams...

im really shocked by this one, ive never seen anything that great from him on any surface. Maybe hes bringing a load of sponsership as there is alot better drivers out there.
Hmm, Pons to subaru, that's a real bomb...debutating on my fav rally in finland, well, i doubt he will do anything shocking, but all the good luck for him, beeing a subaru (solberg) fan
I reckon he might come back. Alistair McRae certainly would!
