Wow!!! What a great race from Montoya!!! It was awesome. 5 yellow flags, but in every restart he gained positions. From the first lap till lap 13 or 14 he led, but his mechanics made a mistake with a tyre. he was too relegated. Then two guys crashed, and touched him and damaged his car heavily and he had to go to pits again under yellow flag. He rejoined the track in p22. Then he was extremelly fast and went till p12, and he had to pit in again, and they took more time to fix the bump he already had. At the end he was 3rd!!! He was pushing another guy, like saying "move your ass!!".

At the end of the race, They were asking Juan some questions, and let me tell you, his face showed how happy is he with all this. He had a big smile in his face. He said he learned a lot, and that he was extremelly happy. While other guy after the race said it was great to drive with Montoya on track, that he was such a great person on track, such a gentlement (and believe me, he is a gentlement in front of all those agressive drivers) and that it was such an honour to have him in the league.

But his face after the race was what made my day. He was extremelly happy, that I think in F1 I never saw him like that, maybe in his first race, but never again.

That's his Champ Car experience for you... His knowledge of Oval racing will help him get up to speed far quicker that many who try to do this switch. I wonder if he could be only the second man to take the triple of Indy 500, Monaco GP and Daytona 500?

Who managed that then? I can't think of anyone who was decent in both NASCAR and F1 other than Mario Andretti.

NASCAR com sucks.

Just for the simple matter that racing existed before 1975.

Anyhow, i am still huffing and puffing at a self-made triple which includes Daytona only for the reason that Montoya is very unlikely to do the 24 hours in the future.

Might not have done a season, but he did win the 500 once. I had to check he'd not won Monaco though.

Bit of a bump here, but JPM is scheduled to make his real NASCAR debut this weekend in the season finale at Homestead. He's entered in the #30 Ganassi car, and isn't automatically guaranteed a spot in the race on owner points, so he'll have to qualify it himself on speed alone. Good luck JPM!

I thought Jim Clark had managed it, but he only managed Indy and Monaco too.

The "triple" that has only been achieved once is Le Mans 24h, Monaco Grand Prix and Indy 500, which was done by Graham Hill. I don't think there is a triple including the Daytona 500.

There are several drivers capable of winning the title on sunday, so it is probably well worth the watch for people who don't follow NASCAR closely.

Graham Hill only won Monaco and Indy, not Le Mans 24h. As well as montoya.

Only those two have made it

Caught the tail end of some race highlights on the television tonight. All I saw about JPM was him climbing out of his wrecked and burning car. Anyone have the details on what happened to him?

Damn! Why did I have to turn it off and watch Match of the Day instead? :|

It was a very poor race until then.

Newman was being a dork.

He thought that Montoya wrecked him so decided to retaliate.

Graham Hill won Le Mans in 1972 sharing a Matra with Henri Pescarolo

there was no reason for him to do that to montoya, it was completly his own fault for spinning in the first place

Juan Pablo started 29th and got as high as 13th before being pushed into the wall by some dickhead with less than 15 laps to go. Juan had also earlier gone a lap down with a loose car but his crew helped fix the cars handling and he remade his way back to the lead lap. Anyway who cares that Juan didnt finish. The guys a gun. And he'll be awesome in nascar because of his previous cart oval experience. Who needs formula 1. As long as Montoya's racing some sort of motor vehicle he'll be worth watching! Go Juan
