Mika out qualified the greatest qualifier ever in his first race ;-)

I mean, I dont know DaMatta, or anything, I guess some of these champcars will know, so does he have the mental capacity to overcome this?

It's got nothing to do with mental capacity... so long as he's not brain-damaged, there's nothing to suggest he can't race again, providing he wants to continue taking the risks. He won't remember anything of the accident. He was unconcious before he hit the wall.

"Mika out qualified the greatest qualifier ever in his first race "

Did he i thought he started 11th and senna started 4th or do u mean someone else :).

U mean his 1st race for mclaren i asume.

Mika recovered well but was left with some side affects, the left side of his face did not have the same movements as the right and he was left with a squint in his left eye. Still not many people would come back from that left alone win a championship. He was still young though

I think the most important thing is he pulls through it okay with no side affects, then we can worry about him racing again.

Da Matta to leave intensive care

Cristiano da Matta is to be moved out of intensive care within the next two days as his condition continues to improve following his testing accident two weeks ago.

The Brazilian is still unconsious, but is now off the ventilator that has been providing reparatory support to him since his accident. He will move to another medical unit soon.

Champ Car medical director Dr Chris Pinderski flew back to Wisconsin to monitor the condition of da Matta.

"Cristiano still continues to show daily improvement while in the intensive care unit at Theda Clark Medical Centre," said Pinderski.

"He is becoming more alert each day. It is anticipated that he will be transferred from intensive care to a step-down unit in the next 24-48 hours where his recovery will continue."

Da Matta's RuSPORT team have received many messages of goodwill since the accident.

"We were overwhelmed by the concern and support for Cristiano," said RuSPORT president Jeremy Dale.

"RuSPORT would like to thank all of the fans for the support they have given to Cristiano and his family though this difficult time. It's very comforting to the team and to the da Matta family to know that the fans care so much about Cristiano."

Here's an update on Christiano:

LOVELAND, Colo., Aug. 30, 2006, 2:15 pm EDT - The condition of Champ Car World Series driver Cristiano da Matta (#10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone) continues to significantly improve. Da Matta was injured after colliding with a deer that ran onto the track near Turn Six at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. during a Champ Car Open Test on August 3, and has been recovering at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, Wisc. since then.

Champ Car Medical Director Dr. Chris Pinderski flew back to Theda Clark today, for an update on the condition of da Matta and to visit with the da Matta family.

"Cristiano has made excellent progress in the past several days," said Pinderski. "Although he is still somewhat confused, he is now conversational in both English and Portuguese. Additionally, he has started to walk on his own for short periods of time with minimal assistance. We anticipate that Cristiano will be ready to make the transition to a rehabilitation setting next week."

Further updates on da Matta's condition will be issued by RuSPORT as they become available.

Since da Matta's accident on August 3, RuSPORT and Champ Car have received many messages of support for da Matta. In response, RuSPORT also announced that, in lieu of sending flowers and gifts, anyone wishing to express their support for da Matta during his recovery is asked to please make a donation in his name to Hole in the Wall Camps, an official charity of the Champ Car World Series. Donation information can be found by visiting [www.holeinthewallcamps.org], or by calling 203-562-1203

Good news about his recovery, let's hope he'll be back in the saddle sometime soon.
