New Panoz Champcar

thing is, champcar isn't a spec series at all, as dave said there just happens to be only one manufacturer of chassis and engine. altho the old reynard chassis is still legal and some teams still keep them as spares since lola won't turn out any more parts unless you order them specifically.... the reynards aren't run purely because they are so old and just aren't competitive any more. same reason why everyone will switch to the panoz for 07, it'll be faster than the current car.

I do believe that there were as much as 7 companies originally bidding.

CC choosing 1 of them as an exclusive builder makes it a spec series in my book.

Its not a spec series. Anyone can build a chassis within the rules defined. The new rules package is based around the 2007 Panoz DP01.

The Lola and the Panoz were the only chassis that got into the final stages of presentation, and Lola was far too expensive to be consisdered as a rules package

So basically another chassis manufacturer can build a chassis conforming to similar specs as the Panoz and supply them to teams if they wanted?

Cosworth are also the exclusive engine supplier, but they are not the only ones allowed to do so.

Just like the chassis are officialy limited to Lola and Reynard now i expect that it will be limited to Panoz specifically in 2007-2009 and not to the specifications it is build to.

You can see it in the 2006 rule book yourself.

No 3rd party chassis manufacturer is allowed to build to these specs in 2006.

Similarly the most obvious conclusion from the paragraph i quoted is that the engine supply is limited to Cosworth alone and not to the specifications it is built to.

It is definitley a spec formula now. Why did lola bid as well but then get rejected. Because only ONE chassis was EVER going to be chosen. that why the had to bid to become the SINGLE chassis supplier.

anyway CART and the IRL should merger and bring back the glory days of the 80's and 90's

lol, no, i know thats not the case but i cant be arsed arguing anymore :P all this "exclusive" stuff is creative wording within the rules to allow panoz (and Cosworth, Ford, Bridgestone) to say "we are the ONLY suppliers to Champ Car World Series". As soon as a chassis conforms to the regulations within a reaonsable price range, it will be approved
