which new new graphic cards work with gp3 - please contribute

Posted by belini
right, i can now confirm that Vista is the problem (which may be Directx10 in all reality, but seeing as the two are linked...) Stock GP3 2k runs just fine, it's GPxPatch with GP3 2K that's the problem. the log moans about secur32.dll and another dll file. odd, because GP3 1.13 and GP4 both work fine iwth GPxPatch

(same PC as previous test used-only difference is Vista Home Premium as opposed to XP MCE)

Already asked to Belini by MP... By the way...

SuperSonic rised the theory about GP3 only recognizing a Single Core... It may explain some Quad Core users who experienced high PO...

Myth or Truth?

yeah, GP3 isn't a multi-threaded application, and as such, multiple cores make little difference. I remember when the first Hyperthreaded Pentium 4s came out (god i feel old now) and GP3 suddenly died, which is why GPxPatch has the option to choose a CPU. From what i know, Quad cores, when an application isn't designed to take advantage of them, can be marginally slower. I know my 1.8GHz Turion (single core) laptop trumps my PC on some things (including intense 3D CAD) despite being a quarter of the spec on paper. I also managed an average 17% PO on my laptop back in the day (I've screwed the graphics adapter on it, so it doesn't cope well with 3D stuff these days)

Edit: I just tried running stock GP3 1.13 with a specific core selected in GPxPatch, and PO is marginally lower (about 5-10%

So, finished my machine...

- AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000 (which is actually a 2x 3GHz)
- 2GB RAM
- GeForce 7200 512

Next step (and hardest one): to BUY this machine... Why it's hard? Take a look on my ID card on the sig...

thought I'd resurrect this thread as I need a new graphics card.

belini monza, back of grid 45%
first chicane carnage 90%
race average 12% to 50%(pits)
25.6 fps, 1280x1024

cpu intel duel core E8400 (3ghz)
nvidia 7900gtx
Os XP SP3

any directx10 cards that can match this?

thanks pk

well...dont have the jam files for the monza track sadly..but:

Belini Shanghai

back of the grid 45%
first corner(no carnage) 70%
pits 120-130%(when someone is pitting and i´m passing)
average 40-60%

25.6 fps, 1280x1024

cpu: AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core 2.30 ghz
gfx: Sapphire Radeon HD 4830 (512 mb)
os: XP SP3
I have an ATi 3850 on Desktop and 3200 on Laptop, both run the game flawlessly with 3850 on xp and 3200 on vista (both 32 bit) When I try 3850 on win 7 though its very very laggy, Pentium 4, 3.4GHz for 3850, Athlon X2 2.1GHz for 3200, ATi seems good. My brother has a 6150 nVidia which runs it fine.

I got a new video card, ATI radeon HD4850 1024mb
the ATI handles directx 10 for gp3 much better than nvidia dx10 cards

belini monza:
back of grid 60%
first chicane carnage 105%
race average 12% to 60%(pits)
25.6 fps, 1280x1024
cpu intel duel core E8400 (3ghz)
radeon HD4850
Os XP SP3

undrivable at any track:
cpu intel duel core E8400 (3ghz)
nvidia 9600gt
Os XP SP3

ahh, cheers Belini, you've just solved a problem that's been bugging me for ages. Every other game i own runs better on my laptop (which has a 9600 GT) but GP3 really struggles on there, while it runs a lot better on my PC (with an X1950Pro) while everything else (Rfactor, 3D CAD programs etc) all run really bad on the PC, despite the stronger CPU (Q6600 on the PC (2.4GHz quad core) P7450 on laptop (2.13GHz Dual)

PC is due for being ditched i think
