which new new graphic cards work with gp3 - please contribute

Posted by belini
right, the problem with GP3-2k lies with GPxPatch. it's a known issue, and it's a Vista issue, caused by a specific dll file, which GP3 and GP4 don't ever access. I've tried compatability modes with no success

sorry guys

I'm looking at upgrading to an AMD quad core on a mobo with on-board ATI 3200 chip. (but the mobo can take an add-in card in case of problems) Anyone got any news of this sort of rig?

well, as long as it doesn't run Vista, you should be ok with GP3 2K. GP3 runs on pretty much anything...

Not planning Vista yet. But its a DX10 chip so back to the DX7 layer thing? How do you do that?

no-ones replied whether ati dx10 cards work or not, as for me I went for the
fastest cpu (single core mode) I could afford, mainly to insure the belini
tracks ran at a low PO, I've not read any posts about quad core causing
problems be interesting to know which cpu your'e meant to run with in gpxpatch,
as for graphics card I'd always avoid on-board graphics.

btw: glad it was 1st april today, the forum looked very strange reversed

@Paul,
I'd agree about the on-board (though I used to sell the old PC Chips based systems with SIS630 chips on, and they ran almost anything including hardware DVD playback) but the mobo has everything I need for a lan-box case (too old to keep stooping to the floor for my case) to go on my desk and be a handy recording studio. It'll be a few weeks before its up and running but I'll post when (if) I run 1.13, 2k and the other one on it. If the worst comes to it then I'll look for an older PCIx ATI card and over-ride the on-board.

updated cards that work in xp

GForce 7600 GT - confirmed
ATI Radeon X1950 Pro - confirmed
Gforce 7900gtx - confirmed
Gforce 7950gtx - should work
ATI Radeon X1950XT - should work

Unburrying this topic... OK, kids... You may call me a spammer... ;)

I'm going to get a new PC soon (or, at least, I hope so...) and I would like to get a PC on which I can run GP3 2000 and Belini tracks...

I heard some hints in this topic and some others... But I'm still in doubt about video cards... It's suggested to avoid DirectX 10, so I shouldn't get a GeForce 8 or later, as they requires DX10...

As I'm not sure if it's possible to use those cards with DX9, I'm finishing with THIS machine:

- AMD Athlon 64 x2 3GHz
- GeForce 7 series (here in Brazil, most found is 7200...)
- 2GB RAM

So, I'm asking to everyone who hinted about that... Thanks since now...

GeForce 9800GTX+ works fine for me.

Happy racing from Germany !!!

had better success with an X1950 Pro too (no stupid pink line bug), but they are getting a little old now... still faster than my current geforce though

is that also with gp32k, I was getting a really lo PO with the 9600gt
when driving with no other cars but in the race the PO went through
the roof. be nice to find a directx10 card that worked

maybe a good idea when posting to name OS and game version

That's the main question now... If GeForce 8 and 9 had sucess with GP3, so I think that the best solution is NOT INSTALL WINDOWS VISTA AND/OR DIRECTX 10...

Considering that Harjinator and Drafi had sucess with GeForce 8500 and 9800, respectively, so we must find out their OS and, most important, PO with Belini tracks... Any other tracks (even Scandura's) aren't good to reference as they are way too lighter than Belini's...

So, Harjinator and Drafi, please post your OS and which PO did you got on a wet race starting from behind...

Also: SuperSonic also had problems with GP3 since he switched to Windows Vista...

This concludes my theory: RANDOM BUGS WITH RANDOM MACHINES!!;)

Well, another question rises... The slot mode (PCI, PCIE, AGP) makes difference? I hope not, I found a good board:

GeForce 7200GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16, around US$45...

right, Belini Istanbul, back of grid, full rain, PO flickering between 70 and 100% at 1280*1024, 25.6 fps (ie the max that GP3 2K can give) no other bugs other than the pink tyre bug

Quick race at Melbourne 2008 belini track, wet conditions:
PO 40-70% +- 10%, 1280x1024, 25,6 fps GeForce 9800GTX+...

Happy racing from Germany !!!

So, why Belini was prized with a 350% PO with his GeForce 9600?! As we can see, GeForce 8 and 9 runs GP3 2000 OK, with a decent PO... When I was going to close my PC, I got doubtful again...

I hate you all, got it? ;)

So, we got some sucess with GeForce 8500 and Drafi got sucess with GeForce 9800... Question: may I run those cards (which are DX10 based) with DX9 drivers?

yup-i was running whatever DirectX came with windows XP (8 or 9 i think). if you're in vista, you're screwed, as Directx10 ships with vista (and you can't downgrade it). i just installed driver from Nvidia and it was fine. I mite load her up in Vista again and see how it fares... not holding hopes up though
