Singapore Grand Prix - The Track Making Saga...!!

Posted by ErickVonDraxeler
WARNING: I'm not announcing the release of the track!! But it's an interesting topic about the making of the forthcoming track that we're going to know next September 28...

Well, kids... I'm very curious about the Singapore Grand Prix's track... I mean, it's a total new track, like Sakhir, Shanghai, Istanbul, Fuji... New tracks are always a challenge to track makers... Belini said it when he designed the Fuji Speedway: "It was hard to make that track because it was a new track and there was a wet weather race..."

The European GP track at Valencia aren't going to be a "so hard one", even being a new track and a street course... But I'm wondering A LOT about the Singaporean GP's track, because its uniqueness: it's not a daytime race... It's a NIGHT race!! It's something not ever seen at Formula 1...

I'm wondering what the track makers (like Belini) are going to do... Will they design the track like it was raced at daytime? Or there's a way to design it like a real night time race? It's a real hard one, I know... But I would like to read the most "specialist" opinions about that... Shall I hear your opinions about it? Track makers, share your opinions...!!

There are some night tracks available and the results are very good. Look at the old downloads section. I did a race in Zandvoort by night in the past (in the F1WGP3L) and it was quite enjoyable.

Another feature to consider: daytime races has a single light source (just a tiny star located 8 light-minutes far from here, you humans use to call it as "Sun"...); according to Formula1.com, track's lightposts will be placed at the same side of track...

Which means that if the posts are going to be located at driver's right side, there will be a "static" shadow projected to driver's left side... It's another question to consider: it's possible to configure the light source? (I don't think so...)

The track's lightposts will be placed at the same side of track ?
In GP2 the shadow of the car is in the CSHAD1.jam.
It should be possible to make a "static" shadow projected to driver's left side with that texture ?!

Shadow updated in carshape and CSHAD1.jam

Really not perfect :)
That's the problem... GP2 used a JAM to make the car shadow... GP3 has no static shadows... I mean, it follows the objects' positions...
