Passed Hakkinen into turn one and pulled out a nice couple of seconds gap, but was unable to pull away any more than that. I made my first of 2 stops and came out behind Michael Schumacher, who I soon realised was on a 1 stopper. Meanwhile Hakkinen retired after hitting a backmarker and Schumacher made his one and only stop. I then span whilst trying to pull out enough of a gap to make my 2nd stop and as a result came out several seconds behind Schumacher and was unable to close him down anymore.

Got a good start but at the end of the first lap suffered a suspension failure. Schumacher retired soon after, and to complete the set Hakkinen suffered an Engine failure late in the race.

Having had a miserable Qualifying, I managed to get ahead at La Source and led the race comfortably with Schumacher and Hakkinen behind.
I made my first of two stops and it became apparant that both Schumacher and Mika were one stopping. Still i was very fast on new tyres and able to keep the gap to the lighter Schumacher so that when he came in, I was still in front, and then with him heavy was able to pull away at over a second a lap.
After my 2nd stop i came out about 10 seconds behind MS and put on a charge and was catching him at such a rate that i would catch him with 2 laps to go. Unfortunately with 3 laps to go I suffered another puncture, luckily it happened at the entry to the pit lane and I was able to pit for a new tyre and come out still in 2nd place. Meanwhile Mika had also had to make an unscheduled stop after hitting debris from one of the Tyrrell's.

ChampionshipsIts looking very unlikely I'll be able to retain my title this season. And after a season of bad reliability I've decided to leave McLaren at the end of the season.
