Won't work in XP

Hey, I've just realized that this game still is "alive", I'm absolutely impressed with all these mods and updates that you all are really into!
I decided to try out this game once again, but can't get it to work in XP at all..

I've installed the 1.13 patch as well as the NO CD patch, but the screen just gets black for at moment, and then returns to the desktop..

What can I do?

Best Regards
Anders

Hi,
No idea, sorry. Mine works excellent with XP.

try changing cpu to 1 in gpx-patch, then set verbosity to medium and post the crash log in a new topic. Post your system info.

come again?? I'm not really into the tweaking-part of the game.... mostly just racing ;)

Win XP Pro, Intel Centrino CPU, 2GHz, 1GB RAM, nVidia video card. I'll get more details if needed, later...

You are using the gpx-patch utility? If not, download it. You need that to create the error log. Is your puter dual core? gpx-patch can turn off one cpu to prevent crashing. The verbosity setting in gpx-patch determines the volume of information in the error log. Try running GP4 in Win98 emulation, right click select properties advanced.

Set the GP3.exe to run in Win98 emulation. If you are using XP's SP2 then there are some minor issues with some tracks but that has been covered here often enough to get on a search. I run GpxPatch in debug mode with low verbosity (first tab in GPxPatch) but you may need higher or some combinations of hardware. A Centrino is well enough to run the game even with lots of patches and add-ins, so good luck with it.

Hi, once again, Anders,
Just a small clarification to my previous post. I do not have any problems running GP3 in XP. I use Intel 4 and ATI Radeon card. But after trying to run GP3 in XP, with Intel CoreDuo (and ATI Radeon, more sophisticated) everything collapsed. Graphics were extremly slooooow, no chance to even thinking about playing. All tricks with GPxPatch nor running GP3exe in 98 emulation, described and advised, did not help.
Anyway, good luck.

Do you have a gpx_patch error log?

maybe the graphics card antialiasing is on, turn off antialiasing and anistropic
filtering, these kill the cpu.

turn up the verbosity level to medium, then post the new error log in a new topic. Make the topic gpx patch error log.

@KingCourse, the error log is created by gpx_patch when the game exits abnormally, if you do not have gpx_patch, download it, it is on this site, or google for it. You must run GP4 from gpx-patch. Post your gpx_patch error log in a new topic please. Someone will look at it, meanwhile try the other suggestions within this thread as well.
