As a lot of users are aware one of the reasons this forum is so popular is that no sig pics or picture posting was enabled, this of course makes the frrum very attractive to dial-up users. Now with the advent of the new forum we all have the ability to add sig pics should we wish to do so, lets try and keep it sane and not make them too big ;-) It already takes too long to load big text threads, imagine the blowout in size of large threads like the test or insanity thread with multiple users adding sig bytes over and over again, damn I just blew my isp account on the gp3 forum lol

D'accord.

As long as you don't use thumping great pictures, it should be OK. My sig is only small, and hardly affects loading times at all, at least I hope that's the case for everyone.

I think criteria should be something like no more than 10K, JPEGs/GIFs, and no more than the size of your thumb :)

Is that fair?

Yeah, i agree. Alex your pic is fine (even for me on my 56K modem:D)

Although it would be difficult to implement restrictions. I suggest if that is not possible then the community decides on which sig pics are ok and which arent.

Mortalwombat: it wont work for me either, maybe your host does not allow linking to the actual files...

I hope that this is not to much of a rehash of what has already been said, but it seems to me that the discussion kinda trailed off, before a conclusion was reached...

So I prepose a summary and maybe a slight reinterpretation:

It is important to consider the size of the graphics that are posted. I use 1 line ISDN (64k) and Alex' sig is 9,5kb. That takes me about 1,5 seconds to download.

Just 10 different sigs of Alex' sigs size would take me 15 secs to download, and then the post themselves are not even accounted for. If we want people with slower speeds (say 56kb or less) to frequent this board on a regular basis 10 kb for sigs should be max. And large pics should be used with careful consideration (I won't even start to figure out how long it takes me to load the "OMG!"-thread, with all them screenshots and double postings of the same).

As to the implementation, couldn´t we just do business as usual? Gentlemen agreements, and gentlemen reminders if problems arise...

Does this sound good?

I completely agree Morbid with a 10kb max. Mine are only 1kb i think?

And yes the omg thread does take a while to load with my 56k modem and PII 266.

Does anyone else here use a 56K modem or do you all have the luxury of ASDL, ISDN, CABLE and all that?
