GP3-2000 Modding Questions

I only fairly recently finally managed to acquire GP3-2k after several years of trying to do so, and am slowly learning how to mod it.

I have, at last, managed to figure out how to make GPxPatch "season sets" with different cars, etc., for different tracks, in the correct order, work (after several weeks (!) of trying).

I do still have several other problems, that I hope that someone here can help me with.

1.How does one modify RCR distances in GP3-2k?
(The editors that did this for GP3 don't work with GP3-2k.)

2.Is it possible to modify the car cameras in GP3-2k, and, if so, how?
(I tried doing it with the CarEditor, as I always did with GP3, however when I load up the carshape with the new cameras in GPxPatch, I get the new carshape in the game, but I still get the original game car cameras.)

3.GPxSound does not work at all.
No other cars sounds, no event sounds, no anything.

Is this a problem with GPxPath v3.91?
Does GPxSound work in earlier verions of GPxPatch with GP3-2k, and if so, which ones, or does GPxSound not work with GP3-2k at all?
(I am hoping that someone might save me the time and effort of trying out a myriad of GPxPatch versions, as I seem to faintly recall that GPxSound would not work with GPxPatch v3.91 in GP3 either.)

You can change the RCR distance in GPxPatch - GPxLap.
There you can find a button to manage it.

GPxSound has a problem in working with GP3-2k for the Versions of GPxPatch
3.90 and 3.91. I am using v3.83 and everything is allright.

Thank you for you help.
You are quite correct on both counts and have solved two of my problems.

Can anyone answer my second question about the car cameras?

Apparently not.
(At least in v.3.5, where the camera tab is not functional.)

Perhaps another verion of CarsetCreator will do the job?

CarsetCreator v3.5 is for GP3-2k.
CarsetCreator v.5.0 is for GP4.

EMAC recommends using CarsetCreator v4.0 to mod GP3-2k, but says not to ask them where to obtain it.
Google search finds nothing for CarsetCreator v4.0.

Is there such a thing as CarsetCreator for GP3-2k, and, if so, where does one obtain it?

More to the point.

Does anyone know whether it is possible to modify the car cameras in GP3-2k, and, if so, then how?
(The CarEditor won't save the car cameras when the carshape is saved.)

Maybe the CockpitCameraEditor will do it, look at my homepage.

Happy racing from Germany !!!

No, I had a look at both of them.
The cockpit camera editors only edit the cockpit camera.

Carset Creator v4 is for GP4 only, apparently.

Carset Creator v3.4beta is for GP3-2000.
It looks to be about the same as Carset Creator v3.5, which is for GP3-2000.
Perhaps EMAC meant v3.4beta when they said v.4.

So, ...

No one has ever modified any of the GP3-2k car cameras or has any idea of how, or even whether, it can be done?

it can be done, but at the time not many folks were prepared
to buy gp32k when it was released, hence the lack of utils.

you can hex edit them, all the camera locations are after the cockpit
view camera

Ah.

Allright, thank you very much for the answer.
So, at least it can be done, even if not as easily as in GP3.
I was beginning to think that no one knew anything about the matter at all.

P.S. There's definitely no easy-to-use editor, though?
(My natural slothfullness would have me much prefer to just take my GP3 car camera files and export them to GP3-2k.)

I've just tried the careditor (have to say never messed with the cameras before)
but I was able to change the cameras, the way I did it was import from exe,
there's no problem changing the values for cameras 2 - 9 but for some reason
the editor crashes when changing cam 1, then export to exe.
hope this is of some help

I was trying to savd the cameras in the carshape so that I would have the neccessarily different cameras unique to each different carshape when I use them with GPxPatch.

It is good to know that it's possible to export the cameras to the GP3_2000.exe file, as this is better than not being able to edit them at all, however, this way it will have to be exactly the same camera values for all different carshapes, which means that they will not match the carshapes as well, or, not at all, if a carshape is markedly different from other carshapes.

(I had a look at a GP3-2k carshape with a HexEditor, as you suggested, but unlike some other files that I have done so with, there was not a single bit of alphabetical or numeric text anywhere to be seen, and I haven't any inkling of where the cockpit camera is either, so I haven't the slighest idea of what to edit for any of the cameras.)

Problems.

CarEditor v3.7 (the only one that will work with GP3-2k)...

1.Says that my GP3_2000.exe is probably not decrypted and it can't import anything from the game.
(I use the no-CD GP3_2000.exe from this website. Is there another once someplace that the CarEditor will work with?)
2.Crashes ("... has encountered a problem and must cloes.";) whenever I try to bring up the car cameras dialogue box with a GP3-2k carshape. (CarEditor v3.4 which is for GP3, and can't import or export from GP3-2k, does allow me to use the car camera dialogue box with a GP3-2k carshape, just as it has always done with GP3 carshapes.)

careditor v3.7 is the version I used, have you checked you're path to gp32k.exe?

The location of my GP3_2000.exe file is correct, however Car Editor v3.7 won't let me specify that the Patch Level is GP3-2000. Whenever I change the Patch Level in Car Editor v3.7 to GP3-2000, close the window and then re-open it, Car Editor v3.7 always says that the Patch Level is GP3 v1.13.

I think it may autodetect, mine is set to gp3 v1.13 too.

Okay, I've got it to work.

Here's what I've found.

1.GP3-2000 must be in its default location of C:\Program Files\Infogrames\Grand Prix 3 2000 Season\ or Car Editor v3.7 will not be able to locate it and will not work.
2.GP3-2000 has one additional car camera more than GP3 does.
(This is probably why Car Editor v3.7 crashes when you try to edit car camera number 1, as that car camera in the Car Editor actually represents two different car cameras in GP3-2000, the Right Front Wing camera and the camera looking back at the Driver.)
3.The rest seems to be the same in GP3-2000 as GP3, in that the numbering of the cameras in the Car Editor is different from the order that they appear in the game. That is to say, the first car camera that you see in the game (when you press "Page Up";) is actually the car camera that is shown as being camera number 2 in the Car Editor, the second car camera that you see in the game is actually car camera number 3 in the Car Editor, etc., with the Car Editor's car camera number one actually being the ninth and tenth car cameras that you see in the game.
4.It seems to me that the 9th (Right Front Wing view) and 10th (Driver view) cameras may not be editable other than with a Hex Editor.

P.S. Thanks for your help, Paul.

P.P.S. It was such a shame to have those high resolution helmets of yours (and Stephen Seguin) and not have a T-cam or overhead view to appreciate them from.
