On the topic of systems:

How much would a FF MS SideWinder wheel be, the one you guys all have? Second hand, I mean. I know a guy selling one, and he asked me to make him an offer.

£30?

Oops.

Not SideWinder. The Precision Racing Wheel, I think.

My year-old system is already outdated. It's a HAL9000 with integrated soundcard. All I can get out of it now is "Daisy...Daizzzeee....". It used to have a pretty good voice recognition system, though.

Zcott, 30 pounds is OK, no more than 50. It depends if it is the USB or the serial version. Check it for feel, and check the pedals that they are in OK condition, because after a while they can feel very soft and press down easily. You want them to be taut.

I had a K62 500 til yesterday with a Geforce Mx and 128mb Ram and could run 1024x768 with mirror details off except for the track and car.

I now have

AMD Duron 1000
ECS K7S5A mobo
256 mb Ram
Geforce2 mx
Maxi Sound Muse soundcard
Crappy old 14 inch monitor
little old 4gb hard drive
Win 98se

Guess which is next in line for an upgrade?

Haven't tried GP3 yet with this but I expect a big improvement

Yo Sup

Im going to get rid of it soon hopefully but its my whole familys PC and they prefer it and dont want me to get rid of XP

The ATI card doesnt work in Hardware mode, and i emailed ATI and they said they werent going to develope drivers for it to work under XP, so looks like a new graphics card for me. It does work in SW mode but not better, if anything slightly worse actaully! They do have Windows 2000 drivers for this card, but they dont work either, i tried them cos often win2000 drivers work under XP

Terratec XLerate Pro soundcard

And now i use:

Microsoft Force Feedback wheel
Deawoo 17" at 1280x1024

Allthough the calibration crashed it running like crazy

Both running on a special Windows 2000 without Internet Explorer and Outlook installed.

OK, I don't feel so 'skanky' now. Here's my (daughter's (who is only nine)) PCs spec:

Celeron 333Mhz
192 MB SDRAM (more to be added)
4 gig HD + 1 gig HD
A crappy 4 Meg graphics card (soon to be updated)
15" (old) monitor
Some version of Sound Blaster
33k modem
Windows 98 SE
Internet Keyboard (USB)

I use software mode with all details on, with 640 x ???? what ever. Runs pretty fast.

I own an even worse PC (I do only use it for internet, music and chat, though) It 'just' about runs GP3 but I don't play it on this.

Pentium 200mhz (non MMX)
128 MB EDO RAM
3 gig HD + 10 gig HD
8 Meg ATI Rage Pro
A Sound Blaster comp Sound card
A decent 15" monitor
56k V92 modem
Windows 98 SE
Old keyboard (Windows 95 style)

I will buy me a better PC one day. Then I'll be able to play GP4 on it.

hehe, i used to play GP3 in this machine:

AMD K6-III 400 MHz
Soyo Motherboard (i don't remember which one)
64 Mb RAM
2 Mb Video Card (yeah, believe that!)
Sound Blaster AWE64
14' Samsung Monitor
6.4 Gb Seagate HDD
Win 98 SE

GP3 in software mode

But now i play GP4 in this one:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
DFI AD77
256 Mb DDR266
GeForce4 MX 440 64Mb TV out
OnBoard sound (AC97 i think)
17' LG Monitor
40Gb 7200 RPM Samsung HDD
Win XP Pro

GP4 in 1024x768, very highly detailed (not the highest, but very good graphics indeed) at 32 FPS

I'm against sigpics
