As you can probably tell from the title, I am in need of some help here.

When I bought my P4 1.5Ghz it had a GF2 MX 400, and with Windows ME I could play it at 1200x1024 and max detail. The processor occup. was about 120% for the start of a race and then it would drop down to around 80-90%. In the wet with a few cars in front 120% was the highest it went to. Of course all this was at 25 fps, which is what I consider playable. Even upgrading to Win XP had no side effects, and sometimes made it play better.

Then, after working out that my GF2 MX was slowing games down to a sloth I thought a GF3 would be what I needed to make everything really smooth. So I bought a Ti500. Every other game now plays better, but GP3 had problems. Using the same graphic settings I had a processor occup. of 40%, but it ran jerky. I put this down to either it doesnt like the video card and needs reinstalling, or its jerky because the card is producing more than 25 fps. So I reinstalled the game and set the same graphic options. 150% processor occup. at the start, and 120% during the race. Gulp! It even runs jerky during testing on this!! To get the game to play smooth I have to to play at 1024x768 (and that looks horrible on a 19" monitor) with all mirror detail off (inc. no textures). Even then it has jerky spikes in.

I've tried a number of things including the FPS editor, and the game either runs very jerky, or sometimes it has a low processor occup. of 40%, but ain't doing the fps it needs to.

My system is:

P4 1.5 GHz
512 Mb RDRAM
GeForce 3 Ti500 (latest NVidia drivers)
Windows XP
MS FF Wheel

Sorry for being a bit long winded, but im hoping somebody can help me out here - im a man in trouble :)

Thanks a lot in advance!

Try updating your drivers to
a: the newest ones available
b: The ones with your card

I found on my machine that GP3 would run @!#$ with Direct X 8. I got an uninstaller, installed v7 and it worked like a dream.

There you go, it isnt much, but I hope it helps.

Thanks, but the thing is if I put DX7 on, then most of my other games wont run. I personally havent had any problems with GP3 and DX8 before.

Lyrics of rock band, Vader.

Wings
Find this song on Sheet music, CD
(Lyrics: Pavel Frelik, Music: Peter Wiwczarek)
There have never been gods and devils,
but there were people who were turned
into them by others and trapped in divine incarnations.

No act of spawning was my birth
There is no darkness after my dawn
I don't commander chthonian gods
That call for hatred, tears and pain

I just don't know why I have a pair of wings

You come to me and ask for help
You urge me to unleash my wrath
You cry and yell and bag and pray
You chant some words I don't understand

Is it 'cause I have a pair of wings?

The rites are drawn to celebrate
The fall that never happened
Over and over you kill the same god
Whose name I don't even know

Would you do the same
If I shed my pair of wings?

Cheers Boba LS, that sounds like it could be the cure.

Exactly how do I disable anti aliasing in GP3?

I didnt even knew it had it to be honest.

Thanks

right click on your desktop, go to settings/ advanced and click your geforce tab.
then look at additional properties,

disable it and gp3 will work ok

problem is though, FSAA won't work with any other games i'm afraid.
you'll have to re enable it after a session of gp3 if you usually have it switched on for other games.

luckily gp4 supports FSAA (full screen anti aliasing)

Thanks for your help guys!

Sadly though, after disabling anti aliasing GP3 still plays jerky. Although it does *seem* to play *slightly* better, its no where near as good as it used to be on my GF2 for some reason.

Something I find strange: if GP3 supports anti aliasing, then how come when you turn it off doesn't the game look any better?

Once again, thanks for your help. If you have any more suggestions then I would be more than happy if you could post em.

Cheers

Is it GP3 and not GP3-2000?

Also, what soundcard are you using?

Since GF3 is quite new, does gp3 support it?

Neil, I think my friend had/has the same, or a similar problem to yours. His GP3, when in Hardware mode for some reason adds a really wierd 'rear view mirror' at the bottom of the screen, which is definately NOT supposed to be there. It makes the game run about 3 fps and the only solution we could find was to just run the game in software mode, yes it looks a little bit worse, but not too bad, it fixed the problem, so I hope it can fix yours too.

That is if its the same problem.....

Zcott, im using GP3 2000 and a Sound Blaster Live Player 5.1 (all of these I was using when I had my GF2)

Rainey, I did actually have that problem not so long ago. I know what you mean about 3 FPS! It occured when I installed Windows XP without reinstalling GP3, so reinstall GP3 and it should go and you'll be fine.

Hm! Afraid I've not much of an idea as I'm running the same soundcard and it's generally a good one. Have you tried re-calibrating the sound anyway?

Yup, tried recalibrating the sound, but I dont see how the sound would have much of a performance hit really. Thanks anyway.

In GP3 sound options, have you tried selecting "Use reduced channels"?
It fixed a similar problem for me and I have the SB Live Value.

I'm on the same card as Neil, and I have no trouble running with the full amount of channels. But try it anyway. Have updated your soundcard drivers to the XP ones?
