Car Liveries in GP3-2000

Hi

I've been having problems using my car liveries in GP3-2000. I've made and used quite a few carsets for GP3 but when it comes to GP3-2000 i'm lost. I've used carsetcreator but that seems to mess up the game for me most of the time and I end up having to reinstall the game. But when I use gpx-patch I have problems aswell. When i click the "season set" box under the GPxSET tab (without making any changes at all) i always end up with this in game:

Can anyone help me with this problem so that I can use gp3-2000 with my own cars? (see below...i've only done 4 new ones so far tho)

The reason you can't see the cars is that the game isn't finding the liveries. Make sure you have the jams in the right place and that they are correctly named. I don't use carset creator - I get down and dirty with the text files. Download a carset that works, (one of mine or Ralph Hummerich's) and see how it works in the text. Check the path files in my .zip files - they show you where everything has to go, but in brief:

Car jams go in the liveries folder, but it's best to put them in subfolders so you can see where a particular set is, e.g.

C:\..\Grand Prix 3 2000 Season\Gp3jamsh\Liveries\YourSet

If you are using different sets for different races, put each set in a subfolder, e.g.

C:\..\Grand Prix 3 2000 Season\Gp3jamsh\Liveries\YourSet\RaceName

BUT - put your helmet jams in the \Liveries\YourSet folder and you must put software helmet jams with the same name in the Gp3jams\Liveries\YourSet, as GP3-2000 uses the software helmet jams when it's drawing the distant cars. If you don't, you will only see the cars within the RCR distance.

I use my old text files as a template and overtype the new file names and locations. Try doing that and see if you can get it to work. Watch out for typos, though - misspell a name and that car will end up like the ones in your image.

Good luck!

it can be confusing at first but once you set it up it's really flexible.

all cars/cockpits and helmets need to be in liveries

my folder structure gp3jamsh/liveries/belini/1999/cars/car jams
gp3jamsh/liveries/belini/1999/cockpits/cockpit jams
gp3jamsh/liveries/belini/1999/helmet jams

you also need software copies of helmet jams with the same folder structure
in gp3jams, ie: gp3jams/liveries/belini/1999/helmet jams

all pitcrew/jackman need to be in main:

my folder structure gp3jamsh/main/belini/1999/cars/pitcrew - jackman jams

the season set can have different carsets for individual races or one carset that covers the whole season:

below are my season.set, and car.set for slot 1

Many thanks TheSmokingPen! I will get to work on it as soon as I can and get manually editing those txt files. I take it you mean the "car.set" file that Gpxpatch uses?

Also, my liveries are still in BMP format. What do you suggest I do to get them as JAM format? Is there a certain program that you reccomend for this job?

Many thanks again :)

When I want GP3-2000 carsets, I get them working on GP3, then use Carset Creator, Import all (from GP3) then select GP3-2000 and export. WOrks like a dream, and no faffing about required. Carset Creator can be temremantal though, we could do with a GP3Edit conversion.

Hmmmh Harjinator, when i try your method it just comes up with an error saying something about reading beyond the end of the file. lol, and i completely agree we do need a conversaion of GP3EDIT but I guess the main focus is on GP4 CC lines and everything at the moment :p lol. *confused*. I'm steadily working on these text files but still dont know what to use to get my BMPs to JAMs so the game can use them. It's all pretty new to me since I've been totally dependant on "all-in-one" editors in the past.

Fincent,

Look in the dowloads section of theis site for Jam Tool 2000. That's the prog that you need.

Play around with it (can't remember whether there is a readme included) and you should get the hang of things pretty quickly. :)

The .set files I was referring to were the ones in the [Carsets] section of belini's post - follow that and you won't go wrong. When I'm creating carsets, I use ArtTool 2000, but copy across an existing set of .jams from GP3, so that you get the right .jam numbers, then duplicate them so that you get one per car as opposed to one per team, (you need two per team for GP3-2000).
