My Racing wheel :(

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel and I have a little problem, my brake pedal won't work! :(

This behavior can occur if the game is not compatible with the "Combined" Pedal Mode of the Microsoft SideWinder Game Controller software.

Here's how it should work...

1.Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel .

2.Double-click Game Controllers .

3.Click Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Racing Wheel , and then click Properties .

4.Click the Settings tab.

5.Under Pedal Mode , click Separate .

6.Click OK .

7.If you are prompted to name the scheme, do so, and then save the scheme.

8.Click OK .

9.Close Control Panel.

There's my problem that I can't find this "Under Pedal mode"?!
I have Windows 98 SE.
I hope somebody can help me so that I can play Grand Prix 3 again :)

I have the same wheel.

The problem is that you have NOT installed the sidewinder software that comes with the wheel, hence the software that is used to configure the wheel, is not there when you look for it.

Have a look at the CD that came with the wheel when you bought it, and I am sure that everthing will work out fine.

Go to www.microsoft.com/sidewinder and download "game controller software".

The CD should have come with your wheel. Do NOT use the sidewinder software from the microsoft homepage, if you have a USB wheel. It is an older version (I guess M$ cannot be arsed to publish the newest stuff!), and DOES not support USB. It is better that you contact your local retailer and demand a copy of the CD.

1) Keep the pedals set to seperate. Make sure that your wheel is set to ID 1 within the Sidewinder Software (gaming options --> controller IDs). GP3 gets annoyed when controllers are set to other ID settings. At the same screen make sure that "Poll with interrupts" is unchecked.

2) Test if the brake pedal works within the Sidewinder Software (gaming options --> controllers --> properties --> test). Just depress the accelerator, and when you have some speed, depress the brake and see if someting happens. If it works, then next change will be in GP3.

3) Now you need to set your brake pedal to Controller A (IRZ) within GP3s controller configuration options. Also make sure that the brakes are set to "analogue mode".

4) Then calibrate, and play the game.

If the brakes still does not work, please post when it works and when it does not (READ): if it works/does not work in the sidewinder software, if it works/does not work with other games, or if the problem only appears in GP3.
