When I put a car number over 30 in the GP3edit, and run the game thru GPxPatch, the numbers on screen in the game appear wrong. I use chase mode for the driving.

Numbers from 1-30 are okay, but those over 30 are all shown wrong.
Any ideas why this is so? Can anything be done about it?

its because gpxpatch only has graphics for numbers up to 30. I suppose you could edit the targa files that have the timing graphics...

go to gpxpdata/gfx it's one of the TGA files in there.

Ok, I've found the file. It's the blue.tga file in gfx.

It has the following numbers: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 and 30. I wanted to make numbers for 1980 season, so I removed 0 13 19 and 24 and put in 31 41 43 and 50 and moved all the numbers so 1 came to the spot of original 0, 2 to the spot of original 1 and so on the last number(50) coming to the spot of last original number(30).

But when I started the game, everything was wrong and upside down.

I first converted tga into bitmap, edited it, then converted it back to tga and put in the game, but it all got corrupted. Any ideas where did it all go wrong?

Update

I've tried different approach. I have left all the numbers where they are except 0, 13, 19 and 24 and put 31, 41, 43 and 50 over them respectively.

Still all the numbers showed upside down in the game and had black square around the blue oval. And the edited numbers (31,41,43,50) were shown in mirror-effect!

Also, the original blue.tga file has 193 kb, but when I edit it , it only has145 kb! How can that be?

I guess you didn't save the trasparency mask within the edited .tga file. It explains the black square problem, but I don't see any reason for the upside down mirrored effect

paint and something from Microsoft, but I'm planning on installing Photoshop and give it a try...
